I'm pretty sure that my 5-year-old Pentium 4 bit the dust today... same thing happened when my previous CPU died too...

I was using the computer when it all froze. Then I tried to turn the PC on, it powers up, but it doesn't even reach the BIOS, the fan just spins but nothing happens, the monitor still detects "no signal", and I can't hear the Hard Drive booting up...

So, should I start saving $$$ for a newer build? I'd appreaciate any input!

Sounds like the power supply actually ... do you have a meter?...to measure voltages coming out of your power supply?

That is really bizarre! I was happily flying along today, when the EXACT same thing happened!!! Now ALL the sympstoms you mentioned are prevalent in MY build. I don't believe I've ever seen the fan spin so fast on my CPU either. I'm wondering if it's my cheap onboard video card. If that's the case, I'm going to have to get a new power supply regardless.

Mike, nope, I don't have a meter, but there is a PC repair-shop in the vicinity... I think I'll have them look at it closely. If it's a PSU problem, it'll be my 4th since I built this thing biggrin

Thanks for the input!

wow .... if thats the case you may have power issues from your electricity provider....spikes in the voltage. May want to invest in a surge protector.

Yeah, without going into Politics or anything, power supply in Mexico (it belongs to the Government) is some of the worst product quality you'll ever see... the plant I work at (Automotive Industry) is protected against power failures, spikes, etc., and even there we have serious power problems! Sad...
