Hi Guys - I'll hopefully be uprgrading a few things on my pc in the not too distant future. Just looking for some advice on CPU as I've been a bit out of the loop lately, my last upgrade was to an E6750dc!! Anyway looking at best bang for the buck in roughly the same price region as the Phenom X6 1100t which retails in the UK for about £195, I know I would obviously pay more for any intel of comparable perfprmance. I currently run FS9 but am considering going to FSX if I can get good results. Other items in line for upgrade are Mobo, GPU (Nvidia 480?) and memory (8gb). Any advice gratefully received. I would also offer up my E6750 to any that need it, I wouldn't want anything for it except postage costs. But don't bombard me with emails just yet on that!

I would recommend the i7 2600k processor, as it's only a tad more expensive (in the US) than the Phenom X6. If you don't plan on overclocking, save a few bucks and get the i7 2600 instead. As for the mobo, there was a recall with the boards that support the new i7's, and the new boards are just coming in. I would either go with a Gigabyte GA-P67A or ASUS P8P67 board, when they become available. GPU, get the GTX 570 instead. About the same price, but it's better and runs cooler. RAM, I'd recommend the Ripjaw X series, but anything that runs at 1.5 volts or less should be fine. Hope this helps!

Thanks Joseph, I was shying away from the I7 because of the mobo problem but a recent issue with my PC has meant a little bit of payout which may delay my upgrade enough for shipments of the new boards to arrive. I had looked at the I5 2500k.

The i5 2500k is a great processor as well, so it's really up to you whether you want to spend the extra >$100 for the i7. Here's a comparison table with both of them, as well as some other processors: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/sandy-bridge-core-i7-2600k-core-i5-2500k,2833.html (pages 12-22 specifically)

Before last month I was running a 920 chip on a x58 mobo with a EVGA 480 card. Now I am running a 1090T AMD, GIGabyte 890 mobo, 560T Evga GPU, and 8 gig ram. I still have the 920 system and was able to run comparisons. THe AMD setup flies and during benchmark checks it is 50 to 80 faster. As I have said before, Flight Simulator is CPU intensive, you will not see notible differences if you are comparing a newer GPU card as you would in CPU's. Your best Pound per Frame rate is the AMD chip based on your parameters.
