Background info: Bought new graphics card, went to install, pulled out old card, realized power supply was too small and not enough connections, put old card back in.

Troubleshooting: Reseated vid card and all ram sticks, ensured all cables connected.

STILL will NOT power up.

Now what????

The little rocker switch on the back of the power supply, is it on??....not being a smart ... but sometimes the simplest of things can be over looked. After that, you probably confirmed that your outlet is working (no breaker popped)?

Double check your 20 pin and 4 pin connectors to the motherboard....the 4 pin is near the CPU and the larger one is usually off to the side under the RAM slots. Just make sure they are seated all the way in. Now check the power and reset button wiring ....follow the wiring to the mobo and make sure they are both fully seated and in their correct positions.

Beyond the above requires a meter....do you have one?

Yeah, I've gone through all that at least three times now. No, I don't have a meter. There is an amber light on by the 24 pin connector, and when I push the power button, a red LED on the vid card blinks once, and the case fan spins for like 0.00050403 seconds, but that's it.

Does your mobo have onboard video? ....if so remove your video card and try booting.

Its possible a fuse inside the PS popped. You'd have to open it up and look though.

I don't suppose you have another PS lying around?....or know of somebody who does?

Just for giggles, try clearing the CMOS and then boot up

Nope.

I looked once, didn't see any fuses at all. Maybe I'll take a deeper look.

Only for an older machine. Connectors are different.

I forgot how to do that.

There are two ways to clear CMOS .... one is to connect the right two pins that are some where on the mobo, the other is removing the battery.

I doubt this has anything to do with your issue but I guess it is worth a shot. Remove the battery for a few minutes, replace it, try to power up again. "Clearing CMOS" or BIOS is harmless, the BIOS will revert back to default settings.

The reason I suggest clearing BIOS, for others who are wondering, is that in my experience "bad" or "faulty" settings within BIOS will cause the computer to not boot up.

do you have a best buy or a computer store near you, you could always buy a replacement, try it, if it doesn't work then take it back.

Jesse

Check that you haven't disconnected the PWR SW lead from the f-panel connector on the mobo.

A long shot, but it happened to me once, check you haven't got a mobo/chassis screw creating a short, you may have nudged something when inside the case.

Another thing to try is strip PC down to bare minimum. PSU, CPU, GPU, stick of ram. See if it will boot, then go through reconnecting one peripheral at a time, DVD etc, it may work.

That's what it was. Good thing I needed a new one anyways. Who the heck would only put a 350W PS in a high end rig anyways?

I can tell you this - I have made my last purchase from Dell. Even ink. I'll go buy a new printer before I give them any more money.

Thanks for the help!
