When it comes to computers I'm a bit of a noob 
Here is what I came up with, does this look like a good setup?

Looks good James! Just a few suggestions:
1. Have you heard about the 2nd gen i7's (i.e. the i7 2600k)? They are more powerful, and run cooler than the 1st gen, and the 2600k is only another $40 than the 960. You will also need a new mobo, but just make sure it's an 1155 socket "P67" board, and you'll be fine.
2. The P67 board is only dual channel, so you will need a daul channel RAM kit (The difference between 8gb and 12gb is almost negligible.) If you decide to stick with the 960, then why not get a 3x4 kit instead of a 6x2? If you can help it, it's best to try and not fill up all of the RAM slots on a motherboard. That being said, i've had all of my slots filled on my old Dell XPS 420 for 3 years, and havent had a problem, so it's really up to you.
3. A 500w PSU will be able to handle that setup, but it'll be workin' pretty hard. I'd suggest you give yourself some headroom and get the 700w version, as it's only $40 more.
4. A 32bit OS will NOT support more than 4gb of RAM, so you will need the 64bit version. I believe if you get the retail version of Windows 7, it comes with both a 32bit and 64bit disc. The OEM version just comes with either/or.
