Well, after much heartache and tediousness, I'm back up and running. I reformatted and upgraded to 64bit Windows 7 and repartitioned my hard drives to make a FSX dedicated drive. After reloading everything I hit an ugly snag, "smart assembly". This ugly little problem is one that I spent hours searching through various forums to see how it has been handled. Deleting UIAutomationCore.dll, deleting Ultimate Traffic II, updating C++, updating .NET Framwork, updating SimConnect and finally downloading a trial version of smartassembly. The various forums said that even when the trial version of smart assembly is over, merely having it loaded and non-functioning will maintain FSX working in a WIn7 64bit environment. I guess I'll find out in 13 days when my trial period of smart assembly expires. If anyone has had this problem and solved it successfully (long term) and has anything further to try, please let me know. Otherwise, FSX only worked for about 30 to 45 minutes before crashing to desktop. Hope to see everyone online in the near future!

ok - I was premature. FSX worked for almost 48 hours and 2 flights. Then the next 2 flights, crashed to desktop without warning 30min in and no error code. Using Win7 64bit, FSX Accel SP2, NViDIA 9800, ASE, Saitek Radio Panel Yoke/Throttle/Rudders, Registered FSUIPC. I'm so disappointed and sad and frustrated. Two weeks of working things out/reloading, and I'm contemplating going back to 64bit Vista and starting over with what worked. Anyone have any suggestions?

UIAutomationCore.dll (32bit). Needs to be copied and installed in your FSX default directory. Not deleted.

I'm tired and irritated. FSX worked great in Vista 64bit. I reloaded everything simply because I was running out of hard drive space and I wanted to put fsx on a dedicated hard drive. I figured that this would be a great time to upgrade to Windows 7 and repartition the hard drives (with Acronis). I know, I know - I did the Windows 7 upgrade instead of a clean install..... Nothing but crashes and problems. Different .dll files each time according to the event log. Maybe if I did a clean install of Windows 7 I wouldn't be having these problems. I don't know. I haven't successfully completed any flight in any plane longer than 30min in over a month. Maybe it behooves me just to stick with Vista 64bit for another 2 years. By then my ASUS G50 laptop will be 4 years old, the graphics card will probably have overheated and died and it might be time to upgrade anyway........

any thoughts from my esteemed colleagues?

wow - reset the computer back to original install (F9 on restart with ASUS computers) - then while reloading all the updates - my primary hard drive died. Everything is backed up, so no big deal. So the computer is off to professionals - may get it upgraded professionally to Windows 7 and get another memory stick while they have it. I've been grounded since mid-March and the misery continues. Off to do yard work, I guess...... my wife loves it. Maybe she sabatoged it!! I'll see everyone in a couple of weeks.
