I have a check ride assigned for the 747-400 and in no way would I ever think to discuss the check-ride with anyone other than the chief pilots, however I've found with the fleet 747 the trim is very light and also when I try to enter the ZFW it comes up with invalid entry on the FMC, would I be better off getting the PMDG 747 to train in or is the fleet 747 worth sticking with, for some reason I'm finding thst I'm like a complete novice with the 747, I know it's probably the most difficult aircraft to get used to especially having spent most of my time in twin jet aircraft until this point

The PMDG 747 is a great purchase. You will not regret it. FS9 or FSX.

Jamie, I am guessing that the reason you are unable to enter the ZFW in the FMC is because you did not change the FMC from the default metric units. See appendix 6 in the fleet 747 manual. As far as the PMDG goes, it is a great aircraft and I believe either best buy or aerosoft is selling the boxed version for about $25.

Thanks guys, hey Nicholas I know it's been over a week since I was assigned the check-ride but the a/c is taking a long time for me to learn so I figure there isn't much point taking it until I get it down to an art so bear with me but it is my intention to learn to fly the queen
