Try running the repair for FSX or restore pc to previous point where things worked correctly.

When I insert the FSX disc to try and run a repair it gives me a message that says Microsoft Flight Simulator X.msi cannot be located on the J drive which is the drive the disc is in.

For some reason, I don't ever need the disk in. Have you tried deleting the fsx.cfg file? It automatically puts one in, just move it or rename it rather than deleting in case something goes wrong.

The CFG files isn't in the FSX folder. YOu need to turn on "Show hidden files and folders" and then search for FSX.cfg ....it is in appdata/roaming/....something, something, something ....

Move the CFG file to your desktop (right click, cut, then paste to desktop) ....try to start FS and see what the menu does.

Or you can just rename it to something like fsx1.cfg ....the point is, FSX will create a default CFG files when it starts.

I cut and pasted the file on my desktop, ran FSX and the menu bar was still invisible. When I shut down the simulator and went back into the appdatas file, there was no fsx.CFG file that regenerated. I really dont want to uninstall and reinstall

OK, the only way I could get the menu bar back was to restore it from an older restore date from the computer.

Now I get a message that FSX i has experienced an error which is preventing product activation from being completed. I have been all over the net of this one and nothing seems to work. Frustrating. Even called microsoft help line, what a joke that was.

Well I went through all of the steps line by line and removed every file I had. When I try to reinstall I get the following messaage "The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it. J:\Microsoft Flight Simulator X.msi
The J drive is the drive the FSX Disc 1 is in for the install. Any suggestions from anyone would be greatly appreciated. I also installed every add-on I had on computer.

So you navigated to the FSX disc, right clicked on Setup, and then selected Run as Administrator? ...also, is the disc clean & scratch free?

I found this AVSIM forum post, maybe it will help you (I didn't read it all): http://forum.avsim.net/topic/286603-unable-to-install-flight-simulator-x-deluxe-edition/
