I've become more interested in RNAV approaches recently and I just have a few question about them.
1) Since there is no glide slope, when is the best time to take the plane out of autopilot? I usually just VNAV my way down across the waypoints with their specific altitude, etc.
2) This bring me to my next question pertaining to VNAV. Since VNAV does not only control decent, but speed, I'm having trouble getting my plane (757) to just take a number and fly it. For example, If I suddenly want/need to slow to around 280 knots I go into the VNAV part of the FMC and enter whatever altitude I just descended through and the speed. I set my speed via altitude/speed restrictions. Is there an easier way?
