Hello Guys.. I have an issue with my computer. The problem is that my computer shuts off completely on its own. After this happens, I can restart it immediately with no problems. This mostly happens while i'm flying, but if I have the monitor turned off, the computer will not turn off. I have no clue what could be causing this. I have ran a virus scan using Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 but it has not found one thing. My specs will be below and if anyone knows ANYTHING about this or a possible solution, then please tell me..

Specs:
Simulator: FS2004
HP Pavillion Elite HPE-500
HP w2338h
Intel i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67 GHz Quad Core (8 Threads)
12.0 GB RAM
750GB Hard Drive
1 TB External Hard Drive
ATI Radeon HD 4650 (Dedicated Video Memory: 1024MB)(Total Available Graphics Memory: 4091MB)
Windows 7 64 Bit

Need any more specs? Let me know.

Thanks,
Justin Lawrence

What I was thinking.. Not sure how to find out if that is FOR SURE the problem though. I have SpeedFan and CoreTemp, but the highest they will get is 65C. Is that too hot?

That doesn;t sound extremely hot.
Check your BIOS settings to see if you have Overheat protection, and at what temp it will shut itself down.

When you boot your computer, look for it to tell you what key to press to take you to setup.
Research your BIOS settings before you do this though. Make sure your prepared for a sea of confusing settings, and how to make it to the settings you want to see.

Open your computer case and blow it out using compressed air

LOL .....

Get all the dust out of the case...especially around the CPU. ...also, blow out the power supply fan and video card while your at it! ...these areas tend to attract a lot of dust. Depending on how dusty it is at your house this is something that needs to be done every few months. When you are finished leave the case off and power up the computer. Make sure the CPU fan turns on and stays on.....during the boot process you may see the fan turn on, then off, then back on and stay on...this is normal.

I got this baby here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153106&cm_re=W0319RU-_-17-153-106-_-Product

The cool thing about it is, it's modular. You can add/remove cables as needed. I made my decision on this one by figuring what I needed, then narrowing it down by customer reviews. Just make sure you check the dimensions, to see if it will fit in your case. It's kinda tight in mine (depth wise).

There is no "for sure" Justin ....not with out testing the PSU, and that can't be done with our the right equipment.

Is it turning completely off when it happens or does it restart the computer? If it is restarting the computer you could be getting blue screen errors and it is set to automatically restart on the system failure. In windows 7 go to the start menu, then right click on "computer" and click properties. Then click on system protection, advanced tab, then under startup and recovery click settings. If the checkbox next to "automatically restart" is checked, try unchecking it and seeing what happens next time you have issue (if rather than shutting down or restarting, you get a blue screen with error information).

What happens is the monitor turns black and then 1/2 a second later, the computer turns off. I am able to restart it right away, but it does not restart itself. Earlier today I reinstalled FS9 and its working so far. (fingers crossed) confused
