Hey, guys. Looking for some sugguestions on an upgrade. My budget is around $500.

I currently have a Core 2 Duo E6600 overclocked to 3.5 GHz, a Gigabyte LGA 775 board (I keep forgetting the model...), and 4 GB of DDR2 memory. Since I'll be upgrading the CPU, I'll need to upgrade the motherboard and the memory to DDR3.

For FSX, should I go with an i5 or an i7? Can anyone give me recommendations on a motherboard and/or memory?

Thanks!

an i5 would be most cost-effective. FS also doesn't take advantage of hyperthreading.

Thanks for the reply.

I ended up going with an i5 2500k (not sure if I'm going to OC yet), an Asus P8P67 board, and 8 GB of G.Skill RIPJAWS DDR3. I'll be putting it all together tomorrow!

Yeah, I went with i5-760 with 4GB of DDR3. I'm getting about 65 fps with everything pretty much turned all the way up. I'm probably getting greedy, but I I'm going to give FSX a shot. I expect to be humbled back to FS9 rather quickly, though.
