For some reason after I have re-installed everything for FSX I have been getting strange things happening. The only two things that happen out of the ordinary are 1st the sim will freeze for several seconds multiple times in a few minutes during critical phases of flight, never used to happen before, but the most annoying issue is the most amazing trick I have ever seen from FSX it will increase the simulation rate by itself randomly. I have disabled the command for increase simulation rate, but it still happened anyway. Here are my addons.
-FSX SP2 qualitywings 757, LVD 767, Maddog super 80 pro, FSdreamteam KDFW KORD, KJFK, PHNL, KLAS, World Airports 3, REX, UTX, GTX, FSPAX, Flight beam KSFO,Fly Tampa Boston, Tampa ASE, squakbox,

Computer Specs- Windows 7 64, Intel Pentium processor, Intel HD Graphics, 250 GB HD, Intel Pentium inside.
Basically out of the box Gateway NV55C laptop- no laughing

Adam, I have a basic computer as well. I too have found that if the CPU usage gets very high and FS struggles to run, that it will stutter/freeze and then automatically jump to 128X and plunge into the ground. I don't have a solution, but I am in the same boat as well.

You know my FS ran like a dream, last couple days its been freezing just like you said but only in critical places an places it never used to before weird

Minimize FSX if you are going to be away for a while...this will allow your CPR to rest and not render all the graphics while you step away

Get better cooling in your case

Open your case to allow it to cool - I had to do this int he summer several years ago before I ended up just making a new computer with adequate cooling

Like Andrew said, minimizing the screen every so often will help, but also don't try to run much else (youtube, music, etc.) in addition to what is necessary for your flight.

Thanks guys, I will try to some of these tips, usually always have FSX minimized in flight, but maybe I'll start using my ipod to watch videos and stuff instead of my computer.

I also get this problem

this is on my current flight to lax from atl about 1/2 the way there, I only have open firefox, ASE, DVAACARS, FSPAX, and squakbox, no youtube or anything. This use to happen only on occasion, not it happens about 75% of all flights, and only in full screen mode. Like I said before I didnt have these problems this bad before I reinstalled FSX.

FYI you are better off running fsx in windowed mode, I had the same type of issues when running full screen, went to windowed mode and never had an issue since
