Hi guys,
I have a little problem that started a few day ago. When I fire up my computer the screen is flashing contantly for a few minutes before becoming normal. Any of you know if that is a problem with the monitor or graphic card ?

Hey I have a similar problem, I start up Fsx and the pmdg MD11 and It flashes at the very beginning for about 30 secs. Then later, once I am in flight, FSX goes Black and so does my monitor and I cant recover and have to restart. I just installed FSX and the PMDG MD11 a couple days ago as I just built my new computer. It has a Nvidia GTX 560 ti video card. I dont know if we are having the same problem but it is getting annoying.

sounds like a 3d.dll error, do you get any errors?

I have to agree with Stephan. Software and drivers can cause funny things.

Funny story, albiet only slightly related, when I was having a problem with my GeForce card, I emailed them a PrntScrn of the problem. I was told, "Yeah, That looks like a monitor problem to me." (how do you prntscrn a monitor malfunction?)

stephan, I believe I did get an error message once and I think it said something about a 3d.dll error or something like that. What should I do? not very good at remembering things nor very good with drivers etc..
thanks

i have the PMDG MD 11 as well but dont have any flashes. one thing you can try on the overhead panel of the MD11 on the top left there is a switch, turn that off and you will experience less frame rate drops, its for the overhead panel lighting i believe but uses immense resources.
another thing, setup in fsx controller settings for the keyboard: ctrl+shift+r to reload the aircraft. when i load a new aircraft and experience any unusual happenings, i reload the A/C with tha shortcut.
i am no expert with graphic cards but what i know is that it can be hundreds of related issues to that error.
Sent you an email.
cheers

Thanks, it doesnt really flash, sometimes it will go black and then pop up again and in the corner of the the monitor screen a message indicating what port you are inputing the video from (in my case DVI) pops up. Also, 2 times it completely locked up. I uninstalled FSX and PMDG MD11. will install again tommorow. I have the FSX Gold edition w/ Accel, but do I install the accel pack after I install the actual FSX? Also I wsas thinking of using bojote's FSX cfg tweaks.

thanks again

Hi Austin. No, you never do use the bojote tweak simply because you will have different add ons and system specs then he has so its impossible to have 'general' tweaking applicable to everyone's system, hardly recommend to not do those tweaks.
First of all you would have to overclock your CPU after a new install of your OS, then you would have to apply some tweaks for Windows, then you need to install FSX, then Acceleration. however, there are many steps to do before you even install your FSX and Acceleration all depending on what add ons you have. Just check my email from me and you will be just fine;-)

if not, then please visit the PMDG website they have a short FSX new install guide which is correct in terms of setting it up but no where complete ;-)

cheers

Driver updates are sometimes required, go to the device manager or use windows update and see if there are any for them

Check also if your monitor works on another computer or if the cable is working properly..

Hi guys,
I found the reason. Apparently it is a known issue with the monitor (took 10 minutes to warm up).
Nevertheless I have bought a new monitor and are now problem free (for the time being).
