Since my first flight in Alaska (Juneau-Sitka), I've been wanting to stay in Alaska for a little while and take in the scenery. I've noticed there are a lot of real world domestic flights in Alaska but many of them are not listed on the flight schedule. Why is this? For example, from Wikipedia flying out of PANC, there is service to the following: Adak Island, Barrow, Bethel, Chicago-O'Hare, Cordova, Fairbanks, Honolulu, Juneau, Ketchikan, Kodiak, Kotzebue, Nome, Portland (OR), Deadhorse/Prudhoe Bay, Seattle/Tacoma, but many of them are not listed in the schedule. Other flights are a charter for Red Dog Mine and seasonal to Denver, Dillingham, Kahului, King Salmon, Los Angeles. These are just for Alaska Airlines, but since we have a couple Alaska Airlines flights shouldn't we have more? The one I was particularly interested in was Anchorage to Barrow but it's not a valid flight as far as the schedule is concerned, though Barrow is listed in ACARS as an airport but with no flights to it.

Current flights in and out of Alaska (for ASA) are: Anchorage - HNL, LAX, SEA, PDX; Fairbanks - SEA; Ketchikan - SEA; Sitka - SEA; Juneau - SIT, SEA. Am I completely wrong or should there be more flights?

Thanks,
Matt

Those flights are probably not codeshare, so they are not on out list.

The other flights are not codeshared, but you can request a charter via the help desk if you so desire.

Or they may not operate on the day you are looking. Some flights may operate only 1 day a week. When you see one, it would be wise to create a flight assignment, then you can fly it anytime you want within 14 days.

It could also be that the information on Wikipedia is incorrect. For instance, neither Adak (PADK) or Barrow (PABR) are currently showing flights by DVA on Flightaware http://flightaware.com/statistics/ifr-route/ The only PANC-PABR route is from Northern Air Cargo, and appears to be sporadic at best.

it's weird that big hubs like Miami have, in deltaVA, such few flights.....

Just because it's a big airport doesn't mean it's a big throughput for Delta smile Our schedule, thanks to Luke and the rest of the staff, represents the real schedules of Delta Airlines and our assorted codeshare partners. This gives us quite the extensive flight database, but sadly it doesn't cover every potential airport you might want to fly to/from.As Nicholas pointed out if you have your heart set on flying a particular route, put it in for a chart route once in a while. wink

Matt,

Our flight schedule is based on Delta Air Lines' real world schedule. We received monthly updates from a commercial aggregator that are valid for the next 30 days. Our schedule updates daily reflecting as close as possible the real world Delta schedule. In addition, Air France/KLM flights are included. They were included from DVA's early days to provide international flight experiences and a broader fleet to select from. Finally, there are historic flights that never change in our schedule. Generally the flights were serviced by now retired aircraft, e.g., DC-8, MD-11, etc.

The point is our schedule is dynamic. Before you begin your flight planning process, it pays to check our schedule to verify that the flight is valid. If there is doubt that a flight might change from day-to-day, then select it when it is available and save it to your logbook as a flight assignment to fly within the next 14 days.

Regards,

Terry

Alaska flies to Barrow a couple times a day... Never get your information about flights in Alaska from flightaware.

Think about ORD, SFO, DEN, EWR, or DFW, they are huge airports, but there are not that many Delta flights from there (Compared to AA, UA, or CO)! A big airport doesn't mean a lot of flights from a certain airline.

Mathias,

Please provide a few missing codeshare flight examples. I'll need carrier, flight number, and depart and arrival 4-digit airport codes to investigate.
