Hi guys had a look around the forums and couldn't get a clear answer on what i need to know. My new system is (hopefully) powerful enough to run FSX at a fairly good rate, so i bought a copy this morning and am ready to install it ready for the release of NGX. However my question is how best to install it. I don't want to delete FS9 as it took me 2 days to install with all the add-ons and i am not sure how i will get on with FSX so may well revert back to FS9. I have FS9 installed on my main "C" drive but i also have a data "D" drive which is completely empty. Both drives are 500GB each so i have plenty of space, but do i install FSX onto main drive "C" along with FS9 or do i put it on the seperate drive "D" which is empty? Which would be best for performance? also will my existing ACARS run both sims or will i have to have a seperate ACARS for each?

Answers to any of these questions and any further advice on the best way to have both sims on my computer would be much appreciated.

I have FSX on a 500 GB and FS9 on a 500 GB - they run great. Install into the drive you want to fly from - so you should have a path similar to mine:

My FS9 is D:\program files\microsoftgames\FS9
My FSX is: F:\program files\microsoftgames\FSX

My peripherals run off my C Drive and a networked machine - all linked with WideFS

Acars will run both - you will be asked when ACARS starts which version you want to run - it's also in the ACARS manual.

But short and sweet - no issues.

You actually shouldn't have a problem installing both on a single volume. Actually, I would recomend it. It often will keep from having complications later with addons looking for the default FS9 or FSX locations.

ACARS has no problem with either. It will ask which you want to use, but only if you open ACARS before opening the FS you plan to fly. If you already have FS (either 9 or X) open, ACARS will automatically detect the open FS.

Make sense?

Recommend installing on seperate drives. Addons will not have a problem finding your versions if they have been properly registered, in fact it simplifies things a bit by not confusing the two on the same drive and in the same "Programs files" Been running both for quite a few years now. In order to install FSX on a seperate drive you will have to name the file on the drive you want to install it to before FSX will install. I simply use FSX.
