Alex; was not flaps 40....that is how 30 looks with the PMDG NGX, and I zoomed out to make the view look more like it was coming from inside the aircraft instead of someone sitting on the wing. smile

If someone was inside the A/C taking a picture of the wing it would NOT be that zoomed out...

Wow Alex - why so negative? Nice shot. If I were a passenger - I zoom out all the time to try and get as much panorama as possible.

Alex; I suppose it is in the way you asked the question that may have led folks to become "negative" with you. For example, asking me "What's with that flaps 40 also" can (and did) come accross as accusatory. A much nicer way of asking that question would have been something like a simple "Is that flaps 40?". As for your initial question; "Why did you zoom out so far?", I answered it for you, and your response was again a bit harsh:

Alex Vanover wrote:

Your response made it sound as if I have no creative license whatsoever in my screenies, and that I was making some sort of a "mistake" by saying that I wanted the shot the way it was taken. It's kind of like asking Picasso why he made a human face so "blocky" when everyone knows that a real human face is not. In addition, the use of capital letters in the word "not" in your post can be construed as "yelling" in the cyber-word; either that or a strong emphasis on said word, which again can lead to people thinking that your emphasis was to point out that no one in their right mind (meaning me), would take a zoomed-out picture of an aircraft wing.

Anyhow, I think that what was happening above was that some folks were coming to my defense based on how you presented your questions and your response to my answer.

I do, however, very much appreciate the "nice shot" that you gave me, to which my response was, and still is, a hearty and sincere smile

Does GEX do anything for the airports or is it mostly the surrounding areas?

Chris; pretty sure that it doesn't do much with the airports themselves, but not positive. I use the REX textures for that, such as runway lighting and textures, as well as ramp textures and lighting.

Envious of you Tim, tried to buy REX today, but my credit card has something against buying in AUD. Ended up buying Ultimate Terrain USA X. Not an instant download so I have some waiting to do. frown

Heres my .02 on the flaps...wouldnt you want flaps 40? I remember a pilot telling me that the best approach is to have as much parasite drag as possible (caused by the flaps), as it reduces the airspeed necessary on approach (less braking time, and in essence, longer brakes, better engine life, and greatly reduces the possibility of overrun). Maybe Im wrong, but can a real world fixed wing pilot enlighten me on this one? I use flaps full on every approach. Sure its a slower approach (I try and have the bird dirtied up right at about 5 miles out), but it also means IM stopping right where I want to, still have enough airspeed and a perfect window above the stall speed no matter what the weight.
