For best performance you might think about a smaller higher speed drive. A large drive requires a lot maintenance time to keep defragmented. I have a 2 TB drive on which I keep all of my backup files but my FSX and FS9 drives are either 150 or 300 GB spinning at 10,000 rpm.

I hear your point Alan but isn't SSD would be a better solution in this case?
Also need some more space than 150-300 GB.

+1 on smaller drives. I've just bought a few Samsung Spinpoint of varying sizes, got the 32mb cache versions. Very quiet and very fast - can't believe they are 7200rpm.

Sorry again. If poss, I would recommend having a separate physical drive for you FS installation. FS does perform better that way. You could go for a larger drive for your OS etc and something smaller for FS.
Edit: Do try googling the Samsung Spinpoints - they get really good reviews.

Personally I run Windows on a 500GB drive (I know, far too big for just windows :P) then I have my FSX installation on another 500GB drive. I then have a 500GB external which I use as a backup drive for FSX amongst other things. Finally I have a 1TB drive for other things like, Music, Games, etc. This works quite well...
I'm running a collection of Seagate Barracuda drives. Love them, quiet and fast.
Just my 2 cents
