maybe its the pc? i would say that if you have any other pc's at home then to try to install it on them. even if you dont want to fly on that specific pc, then at least you could figure out whether its the game or pc

Tom - when you upgraded your mobo - how did you uninstall FSX? If you were installed up to SP2, it could be that your PC still thinks SP2 is installed thus it also thinks FSX is installed. I have had similar issues, though not the same error message. Try running the FSX SP2 setup and then the SP1 setup in that order and see if you are given the option to UNinstall with either. If you have acceleration you may have to hunt SP2 down of the DVD or download it separately.

Let me know what happens.

The weird thing is after I try installing FSX, I dont get the error code "0x80040702 Failed to Load DLL: GameuxInstaller Helper" until right at the end of installing Disc 2. So when I go to the E drive where I installed FSX in, I can see all of the folders and Dll's. including the DLL that says failed to load. And if I install the FSX disc 1 in, it doesnt recognize that there is any install at all and only gives me the option on installing FSX just as if nothing were there. If I try and install the acceleration disc it tells me that I have to install FSX first. Very strange..

I forgot, But if I want to uninstall it I can't because I only have the option of installing so I have to manually delete all of the FSX files.

Ralph, how would I format and start from scratch.

Update.... Now I can get FSX to run and select a plane from their basic menu and actually fly it. I haven't gone further than that.....again here is the weird part. If I put Disc 1 of FSX in to try and do a repair, the only option I have to chose from is the install. It's like the disc is not recognizing FSX is installed already. if I could get FSX to bring up the activation screen to register my key, I think we might be close. But I have no idea how to force the pop up box to open so I can enter the key and activate it.

Any Ideas?????

If you format you'll loose all the data saved in that disk UNLESS it's BACKEDUP

Try to delete FSX manually and go into the registry and delete all the FSX entries if you do not know how to I suggest you dont messing with the windows registry can be a really bad thing to do and might end up breaking something else

Tom - what did you do to get FSX to run? Also, if you think it could be a registry problem you could try downloading the FS registry fix from the free files section at Flight One and try running that.

Actually I think it was running on residual files from somewhere. Heres what I did so far.... I went into the registry and removed all registrys related to FSX. I also purchased PC Scan and Repair registry and ran it as well. So I think I have the computer as clean as I can possible get it. I used a microfiber cloth and made sure I have cleaned both discs 1 & 2 prior to the next instal.

So now I am ready to attempt instalingl FSX..... lets hope for the best.

is anyone using X-Plane as their simulator. Does anyone have any feedback on it good or bad and is it compatible with DVA and acars and fsx add-ons or is there a better simulation platform out there. I think FSX is going to have to be abandoned.

FSX isnt a bad program. You just have a totally messed up install. wether it was you, Windows, FSX who knows? Then there is the issue SP1, SP2, uninstall this install that etc. As mentioned earlier, at this point, you would be better off reformatting your HDD and doing a clean install. I got rid of my FSX Deluxe and bought FSX Gold. It includes all the updates including accelerator and the latest SDK/Simconnect. It installs seamlessly.

Im not a fan of reinstallations. 3yrs and I have never reinstalled FSX. Sounds like you have so many latent files hanging around

Randy is right 9on this one IMHO - think how long you have been trying to get FSX running so far without any joy, a reformat etc can be done in a day or so (depending how many progs you have to reinstall). Still think its an SP2 issue but without sitting in front of your PC I don't know for certain.

OK, made alot of progress today. Cleaned up the registry and reinstalled FSX. Installed with no problem and at the end I was able to activate product. As for Acceleration, it installed without a problem but did not give me an activation screen. Already checked the upperfilters in the registry and it says partmgr, which according to microsoft it is suppose to have in the reigstry.

Back in Business, Had to do a complete registry clean, a defrag on my FSX drive, delete a few acceleration entries in the fsx.cfg file and both FSX and Acceleration are now successfully loaded AND both were able to activate. Boy was that a hassle, but in the end...worth it!!!!!! Thanks for everyones input. Much appreciated.
