I've decided to take the plunge and start to learn a thing or two about FMCs. I've downloaded vasFMC and so far I like what I see. I use it as a standalone program and have slowly started figuring how to do flight planning. My problem is this: how do you add a custom SID? I was doing a flight out of KSLC and noticed there were only two SIDs pre-programmed in from the navdata I got. I used the handy "SSmaker" and filled in all the waypoints but when I reloaded vacFMC it wouldn't let me choose the SID I had just entered. Has anyone else had a problem with this?

Michael first you will need to update the Navdata database which can be done from Navigraph. Some of the SIDS are runway dependent.. like the LEETZ2 and NSIGN1 are the same DP but are assigned different runways where the LEETZ2 is south departure vs NSIGN1 is north departure. When you were setting up up the flight did you by chance select the departure runway prior to seloecting the SID? If you did then that could have been the case.

Michael, I had problems with this even with the update from Navigraph. I insert the fixes manually on the SID or STAR now since I find it easier. Like John said, you need to have an updated FMC no matter what you are trying to do however.

If you copy the guage .inf file to the gauge sub directory of the AC you want to fly, when you load the AC the guages will be that of the A320 model, but if you goto the VasFMC forum there is a tutorial on how to setup the guages for a Folker. I did this for the fleet 737 and incorperated the sounds from the vas directory. worked great. You would need to go into the 2nd FMC and set the AC type as well. Sorry I can't be much more help at the moment but my PC is at the PC hospital having the Motherboard replaced, for the second time, and mostlikely I will end up having to reinstall all of FS9.

Sorry, I've been away from the computer for a while. First of all, thanks for all the responses!

I've made sure I added the correct SID for the correct runways, but it still wasn't showing up. The only options on the FMC for the departure is what was downloaded with the free navdata. I have vasFMC 2.1 so is that what you meant by having an updated FMC? Also, I am aware of the various runways being for specific runways and entered it properly on ssmaker.exe. smile

As far as how I've been adding the departure:

1. Selecting my departure/arrival airports.
2. Go to F-PLN and select my runway
3. Then it shows me only 1 option for a departure, and not the one I added.

I also use vasFMC as a standalone program separate from FSX so I shouldn't be too concerned about which types of planes they work with, right?

Thanks again for all the suggestions!

Had some time to play around with vasFMC and found what I think it the problem. The ssmaker.exe program isn't making any changes to the KSLC.xml file in the "leveld_proc" folder. The only changes that I can see is that it's making changes to the KSLC.txt file in the "SID" folder. However, when I'm trying to choose a departure, vasFMC is only getting info from the file in the "leveld_proc" folder. I could go in an manually add everything there, but it would be a way bigger pain to code in all the turns/speeds/altitudes/etc since I'm just wanting to use it for laying out my flight plan... nothing fancy. Am I doing something wrong so that the .xml file isn't updating?
