Been running fine all day... ate some dinner... restart the computer.. now it wont run. When I click the icon..( Either run as admin or not) it runs for 3 seconds.. the splash screen comes up.. then goes away no message or anything.

Not quite sure what to do. FS9. Windows7 64bit

Trevor - try backing up FS9.cfg, deleting it and then try starting FS. If it works, just add any tweaks you have to the new fs9.cfg that would have been built

I checked the event viewer.. Heres what it says every time I try to run fs now. I get three little red ! all at the same time.. they all say the following.

The description for Event ID 0 from Source cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can Install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the Event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The Following information was included with the event:

3( or 6 for the 2nd and 7 for the 3rd).

I have no idea what this all means.. other than.. I have to install?

Also... I ran the fs9 configurator. Under FS9 CFG Files; the FS9.cfg i get an error opening file. It reads as follows;

There was a problem opening the cfg file!

Path=C:\Windows\application data\ Microsoft\FS9\fs9.cfg

Error=C:\Windows\application data\ Microsoft\FS9\fs9.cfg contains an invalid path.

Do you wish to browse for the file?

I cant find it anywhere.

I had a problem like this recently, turned out to be something in the module folder, but the error for the .cfg file is interesting. You will need to enable "view Hidden Files" to locate it
To do that, go to control panel, appearance and personalization, folder options, then select the view tab and enable radio button that says "show hidden files and folders"
you should be able to find the fs9.cfg file.

Well, what i finally did was back up my module folder, then start removing items (.dll) until you find the problem. Then restore the backup and then delete and reinstall the file thats causing all the grief

You just put in the DVD and the setup will run - it will detect the installation - and you should get an option to repair or uninstall

Trevor the CFG file should be located in C:\users\(your profile name)\AppData\roaming\mIcrosoft\fs9

Also did you run the Installer Registry Fixer.

yes to the installer registry fixer.. and When I insert the DVD i only get Uninstall.

I've found the CFG. I removed it. Now I get the following error message.

Flight Simulator has detected potentially incompatible aircraft or software.

File: FSsound.dll

Do you want to load this software? Click no to disable this software.

I've clicked yes and no... and get the same result.... it fails to complete the startup.

Now what

To stop this message open fs9.cfg in
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9" and add the line FSsound.dll=1 under OLDMODULES so it looks like this

[OLDMODULES]
FSsound.dll=1

if [OLDMODULES] does not exist, create it

Good luck

Upon looking further.. the OLD cfg.. which I removed per instructed... had the OLDMODULES exactly as you said.. but that was removed.

Im guessing my only option is a complete re-install? How do I get FS9 and its addons completely out to then successfully reinstall

Reinstall is sometimes the only resort you have. to completely remove, utilize the Add/remove programs to uninstall FS and all the components that are listed (including installed scenery if there).
Then delete the FS9 directory. Then reinstall.
Good Luck, was hoping you didnt have to resort to a reinstall
