Hey everybody,

So as i have said in previous posts, i am getting a whole new computer system, software, hardware, etc. but the only problem is is that i do not know what Brand laptop to get. building one myself is out of the question for me, so i need to get one from a manufacture. Just what should i get? i want a laptop that will run FSX with at least 50FPS which my computer now cant even get to a 1/8 of ( i average 2FPS) and one that can also run normal operations like Microsoft word, internet etc. i know Mac's cant run FSX so i dont want one of those. i was looking at the alienware laptops, but they are so big and clunky and i would prefer something less clunky. So, if anybody can help me that would be great.

FS9, or FSX?

I've been thinking about getting a Mac, considering the old age of my current rig, and to upgrade to FSX.
Can you switch between Windows and Mac OS?

Yes, using bootcamp which comes with the Mac operating software you can partition the hard drive and load the Windows operating system of your choice. You then at startup can boot into either the mac or windows operating system. There is also a program called Paralles which you can purchase which you can run both operating systems simultaneously. Mac's are awesome in my opinion but you certainly pay for it. Just one of many options I am sure you will see pop up in this thread. cool

Same here! It works great. And, I've heard that parallels does not work well with even FS04

ASUS G50v - it's a couple of years old - but I would get the newer gaming systems that they sell in a heartbeat.

Laptops will always be weak compared to a desktop. Mobile versions of CPU's and GPU's are underpowered. Remember FSX loves clockspeed.. so you would be limited to low clockspeeds with a laptop without the ability to overclock - while on the other hand you can have a 4.5ghz beast that will rip through FSX.

Asus G73. I have an older model, and I see the specs on the new ones are much better than the one I have (even come with an SSD in the second bay). Can't run FSX at 50FPS, but I get a solid 20.

on my ASUS G50, I get a solid 30 to 40fps in cruise in plane - the only time I have trouble is at a complicated scenery with complicated plane - i.e. FSDT JFK, Aerosoft Manhatten X, PMDG airplane - this kills my FPS. I run an external monitor with the viewing area extended so I can drag stuff back and forth, all my saitek equipment, delta acars, squawkbox, avlisoft efb, rex+overdrive, scenerytech and fsgenesis - 30-40fps in VC. The one thing I turn down is cloud draw distance - that was a frame rate destroyer.

If you get a gaming laptop - fsx works just fine. And if you travel - it's great to take it and a cheap joystick, and then those lonely boring afternoons and evenings in a a hotel room in the business park in Dallas don't seem so dreadful.
