Hey everyone

My current Acer PC that I'm running on has what acer deems "integrated graphics" in the motherboard. It scores fairly high in the windows performance chart in everything except Graphic capability (go figure....). I ran FSX for a period of time on this PC until the lag became too much of a hassle for me, I stepped back down to FS2004, but the lag is still somewhat there. I currently have 8GB of RAM and a 2.70GHz Intel Athelon II, I'm pretty sure that its the lack of a decent graphics processor that leads to the lag in my games. Don't call me cheap (I work for minimum wage here!), but I did find a GeForce GT 430 on Amazon for a decent price of $50. I know its not the most impressive piece of graphics card out there but the most I'm asking from it is to Run FS2004 at 20Fps or higher for a period of time longer than 5 minutes. Minecraft, video editing, and surfing are the only other things this machine does. Would the GT 430 run these programs at a decent level of FPS?

I currently only use freeware equipment in FS, but that shall soon change. More than likely after my tablet gets here in a few weeks this computer will be relegated to FS and video editing only so that will free up some processor power.

Is there anything I need to look at in the interior of my PC before I go and install a new graphics card? and will this Card work decently for FS2004 with occasional payware items?

thanks in advance!

I personally think that you might want to get a bigger processer, rather than the graphics card for now...but, if you were to run FS with that GT 430, I think it would be better, probably, than what you have now, but also, keep in mind, you will want to not only get bigger processer, and video card, but not have many other programs open in the background while flying. Also, one last thing, take the little step towards making your sim faster, by turning down some settings. Hope this helps!

Hmmmmmm.......new processor that intel put out???? Think you might have been meaning AMD Athelon II (x2 or x3), anyhow it is an AM3 socket which does give you some options to up grading it as well. When I first saw it, thought it was AM2 eek

With these up grades, you will need to also take a look at your Power Supply Unit (PSU) to make sure that it can handle the extra work. Most only put in a PSU that meets the needs of the basic production unit with the thought that you will return for a whole new computer when you are ready to upgrade.

Integrated GPU = no go.

I would save up a bit at least and get something a little better. Geez, I would rather a GTX 260 which would be $50 more.

That processor is good enough to run FS2004, the GPU is the bottleneck here.
