First off, this works for Windows 7 and Windows Vista, I am not sure about the others.
Hello, I was tweaking my fsx to boost fps, and I found a pretty good solution, and no, it won't disable your computer.
First: Install this shader http://www.mileswebsolutions.com/FSXTextureConversion/
Next: Go to battery settings, the little icon in the bottom right hand of your screen.
Click more power options, then click show additional plans, and click high performance.
It boosted my fps by about 10 fps.
Try it and let me know how it works.

With settings high, and default Cessna 172:

LAX: Up to 65 FPS in VC/ 100+ exterior
JFK: Up to 45 FPS in VC/ 100+ exterior
DFW: Uo to 64 in VC/ 100+ exterior

With settings high and payware Captainsim 757

LAX: 25 in VC/40 exterior
JFK: 20 in VC/50 exterior
DFW: 25 in VC/65 exterior

All I'm running is Intel Duo Core CPU T6600 @ 2.20 GHz Processor
ATI Mobility Radeon 4530 video card

Not to mention, this is a laptop

*Side effects, on top down view, Earth seems completely blue when zoomed out all the way, this is the shader (emphasizing) fog.

I just tried the Texture Conversion and I'm not saying it's bad... But I'm glad I made a backup of my FSX scenery file. I tested it out and I did get a few extra frames. But I did see a noticeable change in my scenery resolution. I can see how this scenery conversion might be of help on an older low end computer.. As a last resort to squeeze out a few more fps. For me the drop in scenery quality is not worth the extra 2-3 fps.
