I had a question on charters. Did a little bit of digging around in the Water Cooler, but didn't see anything in regards to this. My question is, using ACARS, are we able to do charters somehow that one can dig up...either sports or military, through say flightaware.com? I don't think it's a problem unless, from experimenting minimally with ACARS, one cannot operate say a military charts into airport not listed in ACARS, eg, KRIV (March ARB in Riverside, CA...near KONT / ONT) or similar military specific facilities. Is this something the programing folks can handle simply with ACARS and just add more airports? Be kinda fun to dig such trips up and fly them seeing as to how DL may get a lot busier soon with Obama's plan to bring em' all home before the end of the year. Thanks!

Aaron,
If my reading here in the water cooler is correct you'll have to create a help desk issue requesting a specific flight, then the staff will approve or deny it. But don't quote me, just interpreting what i read in the watercooler

Hmmm, well that wouldn't work, lol...just because usually it's not a week ahead, or even a day ahead most times. I tend to see them day of. Now, granted, for charters into ONT, I have a little knowledge on those for the simple fact I work for DL in ONT...but that's the extent of that, lol.

The only way to request / fly a charter (which is defined as a route that is not available between Delta, Delta Historic and applicable codeshares) is to contact the help desk and wait for approval. Charters can not be flown when ever, nor can a blanket charter approval occur. The leg between the two cities needs to be created by staff, thus the reason it needs to be requested. If you fly a charter on your own, the ACPs/CPs/Staff will get a "Flight Route Not Found" flag in the PIREP and will hold the PIREP. On the other hand, you can request more than one charter at a time, but once created by staff you will have 14 days to complete....Then poof, its gone.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Seems like a lot of over complicated work for something that could be fun to do. Guess I'll stick with 'Find A Flight' frown

It's easy.
From ICAO and ID (KSLC/SLC) the Time Zone (GMT-5 for instance)
to Airport codes and Time Zone
Aircraft you want to fly
A brief description (Want to fly from SLC to MARS because it's my home)

Put in as a help desk issue titled Charter Flight Request - and that's it.
