I won't burden you with the engrossing and somewhat monotonous details of how I arrived at my present situation, but to better contextualize my request, I should say that my former operating system has been compromised and I'm in the process of partitioning the hard drive and creating a 32 bit XP based configuration, as opposed to the old Windows 7 64 bit. My question is whether I will be able to transfer all of my fsx files from the old 64 bit OS over into the new 32 bit XP OS, after I complete a fresh install of fsx on the new partition. I've been told by someone who works in IT that this will have a 50% probability of success, since 32 bit systems can't always render or interpret 64 bit information. I believe its more like a 95% probability, since fsx is inherently designed to be mutually compatible with either operating system and is not contingent upon 32/64 bit settings. I would greatly appreciate any insights anyone can provide. Thanks for reading and happy flying my friends.

FSX is a 32-bit app, no matter what platform it was on.

Cheers!

I'm confused about your response sir. You're saying that I can go ahead and import those files without fear of causing any errors with the game? Please clarify if you can sir, thanks. And thank you for being so diligently watchful here in the support forum Mr. Kolin.

Well I'm planning to go through with this proposed transfer of files tonight, but would really like to get a definitive statement regarding the advisability of this process in terms of its potential to cause errors in the newly installed game. If anyone has any advice which may assist me in any way, please offer your input. My concern is that if I transfer those files and they have the effect of causing some type of error, I will have to return my machine to my friend and have him reinstall XP once again, since there is no other way to fully and completely expunge all the program files associated with fsx. Thanks for reading and have a nice day.

You can install your add-ons the same way you did using Windows 7. The add-on files are not operating-system-specific; although they may be FS9 or FSX specific. If you copied and pasted the files, then do that. If you had to use an installer, then you can do that. It shouldn't affect the operating system files at all.

Files are files, they'll get copied over between platforms without issues. Whether FSX will work correctly is another matter - what are you planning on copying over?

Cheers!

Thank you gentlemen both for your prompt and helpful replies.

Mr. Kolin, I am planning to copy only file components which I do not believe will affect the stability of the game. These will include, freeware and s ingle payware item (Justflight A320), a large amount of WoAI files (located in the World/scenery directory), my log book file, the control settings file, a few unique textures that accompanied a freeware download and several custom gauges which will be placed in the gauges folder. I don't think any of these items will cause a conflict. Please feel free to disagree with me though.
