Hello
I just installed FS9 on my new computer (Samsung series 7). However, when I start it up, I can't see the A/C I'm about to fly in the box under the selection menus. Not only that, but by pushing ALT or opening the kneeboard, FS goes to black. It returns to normal after the kneeboard/Alt menu is closed. Anyone have any ideas?

I'm trying to remember since I'm at work and can't have it right in front of me.
Options . . . Settings . . . Display Settings . . . then I think under hardware . . . DirectX preview. Click it off.

With FS9 open, hit ALT and a pull down menu will open up.

You're probably right, and I'm mixing up 9 and X. Any suggestions for him?

Definitely sounds like a display issue, but what exactly, I can't know for sure. Generic question: drivers up to date? What GFX card?
No worries about getting the versions wrong -- I just didn't want him searchin' blindly for something that's not there in FS9.
Best I can find right now is the OOM error when switching between windowed and fullscreen. Which brings me to a good point: use Windowed instead of Full screen. It might look odd at first but I have read (and experienced) better results when doing it this way. Plus if you have anything else open you need to access you can get to it easier in windowed mode. Full screen always gave me problems with locking up momentarily, causing stutters, and just generally bad performance. On VATSIM the last thing you need is to be in busy airspace on approach with perfect seperation and get stutters that mess up the flow. Try that, see if it helps. Then, you don't have to press ALT to open the menu since it will be there anyway.

This is a new machine, so I'm pretty sure everything is up to date. ATI radeon card. Running it in windowed mode solves the problem, but is this the only way?

Just because it's new doesn't mean it's all up to date. The latest driver could have been released after the computer was built. Try downloading it anyway so you'll know for sure.
And yes, I would recommend windowed mode. I've been doing it for a long time and it doesn't bother me anymore. You can resize the window to be full screen, minus the taskbar, which you can always autohide if you prefer.
