Just wondered if you could check this out and what you think my performance would be, I've decided that if I get a new pc then I will convert to FSX, so if I'm going to part with this much money then as you can imagine I'd want to be able to run very smoothly with the PMDG 747 in vc mode and with settings pretty close to max

Just wondered those that have max settings what sort of systems they have

For that kind of money you can easily build your own computer that would be much better. Think 2500k, z68 board, 8gb ddr3 1600mhz ram, gtx 570

+1. You can get a similar setup for a much cheaper price from a site like Newegg

Jamie, check out that build and take note of the parts that were recommended by fellow DVA pilots. I have swapped it out for a GTX 560 and i5 2500k and still have the build at about $850.

Me again!! If of course you are a bit daunted doing your own build then if you are in the £1K price range - this might be a better option

http://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/desktops/369781/chillblast-fusion-flash/specifications

or even this

http://www.chillblast.com/Chillblast-Fusion-Battlefield-Special-Limited-Edition-PC.html

swapping to a gtx570 adds £85 to this.

Thanks for the advice, what fps could I expect to achieve if I had FSX with mad settings and running Pmdg with vc mode and a fair few add on sceneries

Jamie - my specs are not too far away from the above. I am in the middle of reinstalling FSX and tweaking my PC but right now in the QW757 (not as complex as PMDG) on the ground at Flightbeam's KSFO with full Ultimate traffic I get 40fps external view, and between 35-40 in VC. This is with FSX's idea of overcast cloud cover. Also note that I haven't installed REX yet.

Moving to Imaginesims KLGA (denser scenery with regard to autogen) knocks about 10 fps off these numbers. These are both with close enough to max settings. Mileage will definately vary between PC's that appear almost identical (such is the world of FS) and how you set up your graphics card etc has a major influence on the outcome but whatever way you go just check in here with any more questions.

Thanks Alan, some good views their has given me some food for thought, I did find the QW757 very frame rate friendly regards the VC and I got really accustomed to using it,no doubt the PMDG is a very detailed cockpit so therefore requires more strength naturally, I dont think I will go down the route of buidling it myself I'm not an expert and would rather allow professionals to build it for me, I also want to take my simming to a new level with perhaps utilising multiple screens in future, up until now I've gotten by with just a joystick and basic setup but would love the challenge of having a home cockpit

Jamie - if you do go with multiple screens bear in mind you are asking the GPU to do more and consequently stuff will slow down. Having an SLI or Crossfire set up is a way round this but you will have to up the ante with the the power supply. A lot of guys use the Matrox Triple Head to Go for a multi screen set up, I've no experience of this so maybe someone who has can chime in. I'm mentioning this as it might be advisable to include this option in your new PC rather than add to it at a later date, which a) will probably cost more and b) if you specify it now you are getting the 'professionals' to sort it out for you.

Yeah I've reconsidered the Multi screen bit as I do use the pc for internet aswell so I dont really need three screens, I already have a 22 inch wide-screen and that pretty much shows the whole cockpit so if anything I might just get the Track IR which looks really good
