I have presently an asus q8300 with 750 gigs of hard drive and 8 gigs of ram. it's a 2 duo core. what should I do? I use my desk top for just flight sim and I need a new one. I'm almost out of harddrive. Please help me. I am using fs9 and would love some advice. thanks in advance guys.

Here is a decent build if you use your old harddrive. Many people are having good luck with the i5s so heres my i5 build. It alows plenty of space to build for the future. All together it is just over 1,000.

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=254185&sku=S203-8585%20OEM disk drive you could easily pull your old one and save $18
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1610190&sku=G452-1056 fits the i5, and allows room to sli another video card in the future
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=40739&sku=C13-5720 decent ram for the price mine is not quite working right could be a bad card i am looking into it....but most say its good for them unless they receive a bad stick which would be the same with any carrier
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7191409&sku=P56-0560 560TI great graphics card to sli in the future due to decent price and good performance

theres and example build it could handle any fs9 graphics easy...chances are almost maxed on fsx too if you ever move up....

I like Louis's build idea, but I have an amendment.
I would've gone with this power supply:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139011 Corsair 850W modular power supply
I have yet to see a Corsair power supply die. My co-worker has been running a 1200W Corsair modular power supply for a few years and he abuses it (over-clocked, water-cooled i7, three GTX260 video cards, 16GB of RAM, raided hard drives, blu-ray drive....this guy obviously makes more money than me), and it still performs like a dream. I've owned an 850W non-modular one for a year and it is hardly ever powered-off, and it still performs like new. It's a few dollars more, but worth it in my opinion.
However, this is just an opinion, and should be considered as such.

Another thing I'm wondering: What operating system would you plan on using with your new build?

Cheers

They don't even sell windows xp 64 anymore :(, unless you buy an old copy. So his only option is a form of Linux or windows 7 64 bit.

7 isn't hard to find, isn't too terribly expensive anymore, and it performs well. I have no experience with Linux, so I can't really speak for it's performance since I frankly have no idea how it works.
