I can't afford a new cpu cooler to replace the factory so i bought a cheap $15 fan from bestbuy. It is suppose to run at 1200rpm at %100. I installed it above my cpu in the spot ect ect i plugged it into my motherboard and booted ect. In prime i am now running at 58 same as before I am figuring ok...but when i look at my fan speed it sits at 617 rpm no matter what i do. I have tried using amd overdrive to move it and speed fan it won't move.

Which fan header do you have it plugged into? It should be in the cpu fan jumper which will be next to the cpu socket.

Did you apply thermal paste to the heatsink before installing the fan?

This is not a cpu fan it is a case fan, I am using the stock cpu fan.

My cpu is fine, I just want it to run a little colder until I can buy a new cpu fan. I rather wait a few weeks an buy the H60 then buy a cheapy one now. So I bought another case fan to mount in the spot above the cpu (on the case) to help move air away.

Also i have it plugged into my mobo in a system fan1. I would put it in another but it is a 4 pin connector and my other two that are open on the mobo are 3.

All good but any tips on how to get it past the 600rpm area to the %100 of 1200rpm it says it does?
