See here for a direct comparison between the two cards you mentioned. GTX 580 blows it out of the water!

If cost is an issue use two Evga 560Tis its a little cheaper then a 580. About the same performance in the end from what I have been reading in some cases the 580 was faster others the duel 560 tis were.

Whatever you go for Josh ... just make sure you have sufficient power supply and cooling - especially if you consider an SLI configuration ... otherwise your investment may be in vain!

I agree make sure you have enough power and cooling. I suggest at least not playing in a warm room, I am lucky enough to play in our basement when it snows I sit at only like 25 degrees rofl its so cold down here when its just sitting on air and a cheap case.

I have enought cooling, and I think enough power. Right now I have the 3GB DDR3 NVIDIA GeForce GT 545 [DVI, HDMI, VGA], but I want to upgrade to the 3GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 [2 DVI, HDMI, VGA adpt]. So I have enough cooling, but is 300W power enough, and if not, how do I upgrade my power suply? Thanks!

Again, everthing is totaly fine, and temp never increases in my room with the 3GB DDR3 NVIDIA GeForce GT 545 [DVI, HDMI, VGA].

By the way, my other specs are Intel core i7-2600 CPU@3.40GHZ w/ 16GB RAM

Not sure about the board, if that matters....

You will need at least 650-850W total for any graphics card update i am %100 sure. I am using a AMD 8120 with a GTX 560 and i am pushing it on 650W.

The board will matter you need to know if you can sli if you plan on that route, or if you even have a pci x16 slot for the GTX 580 if you go with that. Also waiting a year for something that will pry cost around $900 anyways is pry not worth it.

FSX does NOT recognize multi-GPU setups.. go with one card if it's for FSX. Are you kidding me? 580 no brainer over the 545. 300w PSU won't cut it.. you're using a weak PSU and have way too much RAM, 16GB is useless.

Does not matter if he has to much ram lol maybe if he was just now building the system. But you are right from everything I have seen duel GPUs won't do anything more. But if you plan on playing other games the option is always there not everyone just plays FSX, or may want to go play another game later on.

DMI always. Or even better with HDMI cable.
Definitely you will need to buy a new power supply. At least 650W.

This for sure 650W psu for 560-570ish for a 580 i would get a 800W+ and a good cpu cooler. That will make for great overclocking fsx gets most of its fps from cpu for example my 8120 at 3.7Gz on max settings gets 5-10FPS frown at 4Gz i get 20-30FPS which is a crazy big difference. The only problem is i need to wait to get the H80 for my computer I am still on stock cooler. If you get the h80 or h100, and then get the gtx 560 or the ati = you will receive much better frame rates for cheaper then a gtx 580 through simple overclocking. If you already have a non stock cooler get the gtx 580.

I suggest this powersupplie http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7195038&Sku=C13-2802

I have the 580, waiting for price to drop $50 more and I'm going to get another one and link them together. I have 800 psu and I will need it with the second gpu.

You can fit two on a 800w PSU ? Seems like it would be pushing it really hard. Also what one do you have?

It`s going to be a powerful machine right there. But I don`t think that FSX able to run with two Video Cards, as the FSX software is old.
But I have this one that I bought it, but never played yet waiting for the Microsoft Flight in Spring: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131446

Like I said, I didn`t try it yet for FSX, but I use for Battlefield 3 and runs like I`m in the game. imagine crossfiring? I love ATI cards. But I use in my Sony Vaio laptop the GTX 560 and runs amazing.
By the way, I did the try out Microsoft Flight Beta with ATI vid card, Looks awsome!

even 700w can run 2 GPU's just fine. a 2500k, gtx 580/ati 6970, dvd and hard drive may use around 500w.
