I've had ASE (non-2012) for almost 2 months now, and I was loving the experience. It makes FSX much more realistic in terms of weather; however, things have changed. Seemingly over night ASE has decided to stop working, and I have no idea why. When I start ASE it loads for 10-20 seconds and then I get an error box saying that ASE has stopped working. I've emailed Hifi about it and I've gotten nowhere thus far. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but that didnt fix the problem. I've tried updating the service pack for ASE, but that didnt work either. I'm starting to get very frustrated with a program that I want to love so much, but for the past two weeks it has let me down.

Any ideas on how to get ASE to work like it once did?

Hard to say what the problem is, but from what you're describing, it sounds like a disk problem. Can you try to install it on another drive?

Mine is still working fine, so it sounds like your system.

Worse come to worse, you could roll back your computer to the last day that it worked and see if that fixes the problem....

I had this once. Uninstall it then go into your AppData ---> Roaming folder and delete the Hifi Folder. Then reinstall ASE, should sort it out for you.

Good call Robert, also I would do registry clean using something like Ccleaner before reinstall.

Where is the appdata folder found? And yes, the latest SP is installed.

This problem manifested itself out of the blue. I made no changes to my computer or FSX. It just stopped working one day, which really puzzles me.

I am very much a n00b when it comes to computers, drives, folders, partitions and all that jargon. Full explanations of these suggestions would be very much appreciated.

The appdata folder is usually at C:\Users\Alan\AppData\Roaming - replace c:\ with wherever windows is installed and my name with your name. In there is a folder called Hi-Fi. After you have uninstalled ASE delete this. This is because even after an uninstall a lot of programs leave bits and pieces on your hard drive. Usually if a file is not the same as what was installed. It could be that there is a corrupt file left in this folder which is causing your issues.

Likewise a lot of registry entries are left behind. For a start I know that ASE keeps your registration details in the registry. Again cleaning the registry will remove any dodgy entries. If you google 'Ccleaner' this is a freeware program that can do this (and some other good stuff for you). Just remember to back up, Ccleaner will prompt you to do this and do the back up for you.

As far as the service packs for ASE they are cumulative (IIRC) so you only need to install the latest.

Hope thats all clear - come back here if you have any probs or if this doesn't solve it.

Alan, you were spot on with your assessment of my problem. Thank you very much for your input and clear explanation to resolve the issue. I uninstalled ASE, deleted the Hifi folder, reinstalled and the problem was gone. Again, thank you.

Mark - it was Robert that first came up with the folder deletion idea - I just explained what each action did, so more of a team effort? smile At the end of the day glad we were able to sort it.
