I installed two new payware airports today, now I'm getting stuttering throughout the flight, bascially every 2 seconds it paused for a split second so it's never smooth, might I have pushed my computer to it's limits. I am thinking of a major upgrade, just wondered if anyone else has this experience

if you are using FSX or FS9, and your computer memory cant handle the graphics processing, with all the addons running - then you need to upgrade. Most people dont think about the multiple graphics processing needs when you start adding high need addons...typical problem, that usually pisses folks off - before they no the limits of the system.
Try turning some options down if it is FSX, turn off boats, and cars, etc....see if that helps at all.

Same here, I am upgrading from 9GB or Ram to 16GB, from 300W power supply to 800W power supply, and from 3GB GeForce GT545 to GeForce GTX590 4GB.
That's my recomendation!

Thanks for the responses guys, I appreciate all the help and to be honest I didnt give much insight as to what I have, My Specs are
AMD phenom II X4 810 processor 2.60 Ghz
6GB memory installed
Windows 7 64 bit
Asus EAH6670 series graphics
500W power supply
As for the add-ons I only really became truly serious last year when I started getting payware airfields;
QW757, Imagine Sim = KATL, KDTW, KLGA , KEWR
Cloud9 LAX , DCA
FSDT JFK, KORD KFLL, KDFW, KLAS
Flight beam KSFO
I also run FSINN and have FScene installed as textures, notably it's only just started occuring when I added KDFW and KLAS,
I feel the time has come to upgrade it's just I'm not the greatest fan of big spending, although I know it'll have to be done

Thanks for the info. BTW, have you, or anyone else, heard anything about them coming out with a GTX 600 series?

Guys,
with FSX the ONLY important factor is cpu speed, not Hard disks, video card and whatsoever.
FSX runs perfectly well with and old 9800gts+, probably as well as the latest Nvidia video cards.
The real concern is the code of FSX that is really quite horrible.
The only way to make it smooth is :
CPU CPU CPU
If you plan to do an upgrade point the new 2500k core cpu or better if you can, with a decent motherboard and possibly a CL6-CL7 latency memory.
Power Transformer is not that important, unless you don't get a Nvidia 580+ that eats up all the electricity and several hard-disks.
So :
step 1) buy at least a 2500k core cpu (or latest phenoms but they will never be equal to Intel)
step 2) do overclock up to at least 3,6-3,7 ghz, 2500k doesn't heat up at all compared to my i7 950 at 4.2ghz.
step 3) have FSX on a separate HD, if possible a SSD to lessen stutterings
step 4) if you have FSX on a hard-disk defrag at least once a week
step 5) use Boyote tool to setup your fsx.cfg
step 6) REMOVE DX10, REMOVE AI TRAFFIC, REMOVE flare lens and other amenities
step 7) use fps limiter and set fsp limiter to 30fps, that will change your life
These are the first important tips i feel to give you.

Hate to rain on your parade but the 8120 is now scoring higher on benchmarks due to the earlier release of a windows 8 update to make better use of the 8 cores then the i5 2500k. I have my 8120 overclocked and score just under a stock i7 2600k which sucks but at the same time I saved over $130 by going with the 8120, and now i can brag the 8120 is smashing the i5, which was nothing but beaten down by intel lovers which now they have nothing to talk about in the (i5 vs 8120 range at least).
---on topic
If you do plan on upgrading you are using a AM3 socket I believe you can easily upgrade to a 1100T Black Edition, or if your motherboard supports upgrading the BIOs to AM3+ get the 8120. Total cost is about $200 for either of them. This would save over switching to the SLOWER i5-2500k which would be about $230 for the processor, and another $200+ for the motherboard.

A strange occurance happened today, I ran FS9 as administrator also I tweaked a little in the graphics card menu and I ended up with one of the smoothest flights I've ever had, I'm not sure quite what I did but if this is the result then I'm now served to leave everything as it is, their was even heavy cloud over Atlanta and still only minimal juddering, I'm happy to run like this and if it means saving me £1000+ then that suits me fine
