I use an external frame rate limiter set to 30fps and it's a good number for me.

Set FSX to unlimited and use an external limiter to limit to 20-30

Here's a link to one, its in the first post http://www.itsyourplane.eu/forums/index.php?topic=1093.0

Ryan - you may be right - I just picked that up from this thread http://forum.avsim.net/topic/322993-alternative-external-fps-limiter/ which also has a link, may be an updated version, here's another but you will need java installed www.mediafire.com/?ym4g3rugdyg
