i recemtly built a computer. an i7 2600k windows 7 box. she really zips, with fsx, but ive decided at least for now am gonna stay with fs9. you've heard it before...ive got too many addons to leave behind.

anyway, if you're not aware there is a way to edit fs9.exe to use more than the 2gb it was restricted to in 32bit operating system. actually you can edit an .exe to read more than 2gb. this helps outofmemory issues with complex situations in fs.

so my old computer is windowsxp pro 32bit. i have used this 4gb switch (by manually editing the .exe, and by using the 4gb_patch.zip), so i know how to do it. my new windows 7 machine has issues. i am able to edit the .exe, but on boot i get the attached image/error. actually ill have to upload the picture later, cant figure it out on this silly ipad.

after the edit i double click on the .exe and get an error at the splashscreen...appcrash or something?

Daniel - I looked into this a while back myself, didn't really pursue it because a lot of add-on forums (FSDT) have a fair few posts about problems. If it helps, the way I was going to do it was to manually edit the FS9.exe header using CFF Explorer http://www.ntcore.com/exsuite.php so that the app could handle >2gb address space. That's about as far as I got! I hadn't heard of the 4gb Patch. Don't know if you have used CFF - if not it may be worth a shot.

ive tried doing it manually with cff as well, no luck

most of the payware aircraft. lots of sceneries.

the issue would arise after a long haul in a complex aircraft - approaching a complex area - with ultimate terrain installed. it was a out of memory error - this is supposed to fix it.

reading now looks promising. could not tell you how many times i went to that google search - but it only took my to the last page - which has no useful info!

FSDT say that their Addon Manager does not check the FS9.exe, of course one of your other add-ons may well do and when it sees that FS9.exe is not as it should be bombs and brings FS9 down with it. Not sure if this would work but what you could try is get one of the freeware apps that put unused AC into a 'hangar' (i.e. Disable them) and put your Payware AC in there and then comment out all of your addon sceneries in scenery.cfg using // at the start of each line and then see is FS9 runs. If it does enable each one by one until you find the culprit. As I said this may not work because there may be something that fires off in the background even if the addon is disabled. Of course the only other way I can think of is a fresh FS install and it sounds like that is the last place you want to be!
