on my wifes Alienware M-17X I can upgrade the RAM from her 4GB 676MHz to 4GB 800MHz. Would she notice a difference in this? or would it just be a waste?

IMO it would be a waste ....another 124MHz isn't going to make any noticeable difference

Agreed. What operating system is she using?

If she is running windows7 64. Bit I would go to 8 gb of ram, there you would notice a difference.

If it is windows 7 32 bit, then 4 gb is the max memory that 32 bit recognizes.
