Hello,

I use SquawkBox to connect to Vatsim and recently I can connect to the servers, but there's no controllers listed. I've changed servers but the same thing occurs. Any idea where everyone is at? Have I been banned?

ATC isn't online 24/7. When there's no ATC, you announce your intentions on UNICOM (122.80)

To see who's online -

Understood, but I also had this happen to me last night around 8 pm EST, which seems to me to be prime flying time.

Also, if i go to the first link, I see 2 controllers now on from the UK. When I connect to the UK server, no controllers appear on squawkbox.

Connecting to a server should be done on your location. ATC is not tied to a server. Connect at the airport and you should see ATC (SB may need some time to load).

While it may times may seem good for flying, all ATC is volunteer based and as such, RW obligations arise. Friday afternoon - Sunday evening is the best time to catch ATC (although London-area ATC is on a lot). Divisions also can't staff all airports 24/7 and they can be short on people (I've seen Italian ATC on twice the entire time I've been using VATSIM).

Brandon, I appreciate the effort to answering my question but you're missing my point. If I go to the "Who's Online" page at this very moment, there are 38 controllers on VATSIM. When I fire up SB, I can't see any of them, all i can do is is transmit to 122.80. It was my understanding from past experience that controllers should appear, if they are online at the time, once you launch SB. I'm not seeing them anymore, hence the problem.

Jeremy let me try and explain this... lets say you are trying to connect to USA-E server and you get the normal login captions about your Username and account info will be logged... AND you are positioned at Atlanta BUT after getting logged in and checking who is online you see that for example only controllers for Memphis ARTCC and Cleveland ARTCC are on. NOw depending on what what the controllers settings are (center per their SOP maybe only 650 miles, or less) or Per position staffed if you are outside of their position setting you will not see the controller. As Brandon said, sometimes you need to give the server time to update controller info. OK so lets say that you are at ATL and you go and check and their is a ZTL Center controller online when you login you should see this controller

Brandon,

I no longer use squawkbox, but I did for a while, and from my recollection it only shows ATC that are online and within range. It has never provided a list of all online ATC. What you can do, is use one of the resources referenced above prior to starting flight sim. Find an area that is controlled, start a flight at that airport and connect to vatsim. If active atc is not reflected in squawkbox, then you may have a problem with squawkbox and may need to switch to fsinn(shameless plug). wink
