Good evening DVA Bosses,
what's about to insert that gorgeous plane into the historical program reminder in the log book?
I mean the mark " flight flown as a part of the Delta historical program" ecc.
Regards

Historic is based on the schedule, not the aircraft.

The other thing preventing this is that the DC-9 is still in operation, although it might make sense to apply this to the Series 10 and Series 30 models.

Cheers!

With proper maintenance these birds can fly well past their intended retirement age, many cargo airlines still fly the DC-8's albiet with newer engines. Sometimes it makes sense to have older birds if they are still turning a profit since they are paid off (and cargo is a very lucrative side of flying).

I completely agree, onece i stepped in dc9, IT was equipped with the ins nav, never seen before, but it was a retired plane.
Men, inside the cockpit it's really a mess, full of knobs and analogic stuffs!!!
However, also the 727 still flies nowadays, but it's in the historical program, so i wish to see the glorious dc9 marked as an historical plane too....but it's only a wish.
Regards.

Delta still uses and abuses the DC-9-50 model. Rumor around Delta right now is that they are looking at ways to keep them flying until the end of 2013. Since they are all supposed to be retired this year. So we shall see. Like everyone above said, it's hard to put a current aircraft in the historic category.
