Hi I'm new to AFVA and just flew my first flight the other day using ACARS and my wilco A320. Shortly after startup I noticed the instrument displays were slightly dimmer than normal. The displays continued to fade until they disappeared completely and shortly after both engine shut down as well. I checked the upper panel and all generators were on and batteries were still displaying full charge. I also use FS2crew when flying the wilco a320. This only happened after installing and using acars for the first time. I never had this problem before. I've searched everywhere wilco, fs2crew and various forums with no solution to the problem. I restored the panel.cfg file using fs2crew start center which solved the engine out and display fading but now the managed modes in autopilot don't work. Any advice or help would be appreciated.

Welcome to AFVA Gustav!!! The problem with the engines shutting down is a normal problem with some a/c and it happens when you load fuel with the ACARS utility. You should load fuel and then restart your engines normally, if it may help. I own the wilco a320 but I never had a problem with the managed modes in the a/p. About the manged modes, do you fully configure the FMC before departure? Maybe someone else could chime in here to help.

Hi Salvo,
I start my flights with a cold and dark cockpit and the FMC was fully setup with weights v speeds etc. Engine startup went fine but then had the shutdown midflight and was unable to restart them. I think this had something to do with ACARS loading fuel and adjusting the payload. I fixed this problem by restoring the panel.cfg with fs2crew startcenter since I figured ACARS modifying the panel.cfg was the cause of the problem. However after I did this I ran into problems with the autopilot not working properly. I guess my real question should be does acars only modify the panel.cfg or does it edit the aircraft.cfg as well? If this is the case I will have to figure out which entries to remove to get my aircraft working again.

Incidentally I just tried a flight with my wilco a319 and had the same problem with the cockpit instruments getting dimmer and dimmer until dissapearing altogether even though I answered no when ACARS asked to adjust fuel and payload for my aircraft. Does this mean ACARS modifies the aircraft panel even if you don't make fuel payload adjustments through ACARS?

Well I figured out what caused the problem. Boy do I feel stupid. Apparently the decision height adjustments for concorde actually dim the main displays which was mapped to the same button as the fs2crew main button. So problem solved. Lol

Yeah, good for you! In any case, I don't think that ACARS changes any .cfg files. It is completely independent from your a/c. Happy flying!
