Hey guys, just wanting to know if these specs could run FSX with 30-40 FPS with multiple sceneries and add-ons on High settings.

I'm just going to list the CPU, Graphics card, and RAM.

i7 3820 @ around 4.0 GHz
8GB 2133MHz DDR3
1.5GB GTX 580

I also have another question, would either of these significantly decrease the FPS instead of using the 580?

GTX 555
1.25GB GTX 560 Ti

Thanks!

Defiantly! You would have no problems running FSX high in FPS with that. the GTX 555, and GTX 560 TI wouldn't downgrade you "significantly", but you may see a minor bump in the fps from time to time. Other than that, you should be fine.

Ok, thanks a lot man! I'm going to go with the 580.

One more thing, would it really make any difference between the 1600MHz and 2133Mhz RAM? Besides the miniscule decrease in load times? Both are 8GB.

Not a whole lot; if its only a few $ more I would go for it, but if i'm not mistaken some mobos cant do 2133 so you might want to double check.

I know, I think he is because he mentioned the GTX555 which is a OEM GPU (not that great either), and the only place ive seen it available is Dell. Based on the other things he mentioned he is probably trying to get the higher end Alienware, but he could save at least a few thousand by building it himself (or possibly going through iBuyPower or something, but it would still be more expensive).

I was going to say the same thing...

Well its not my money but if you go with Alienware and want to spend double the cost it would normally be for the same components spend the $115 and get the ALX upgrade for your case its what makes Alienware nice there case....

Yes, I bought an Alienware. I know it is more expensive but money really isn't an extremely big deal, and I know I won't need a 3960X or Quad GTX 690s, lol.

It was ~$2300 after tax because I upgraded to a 3930k. So I probably spent around 5-7 hundred more than building one, I think?

GTX 580 $400
I7 3930k $600
Liquid Cooler $100
Ram $50
Windows 7 $100
Hard Drive $100
Case $50
Motherboard a few $100

So that's around $1600

500-700 is a lot of money... and pretty much what im short for my new system. Btw, if this is a purely FS/gaming comp, you went way overboard with the processor. Most games (and flight sim) cant use more than a few threads (usually 1-2; 2 for FSX). Any extra could be used for the OS and other things running at the same time, but you still don't need 10 extra threads. The extras typically only improve performance for things like encoding. Also Ivy bridge comes out in like a week... But anyways congratz on the new system!

Yeah, although the processor was "only" a $300 upgrade (had a $200 coupon). I really just want to get into FSX, I have only been able to play FS9 with my laptop and since it has to go into the shop, I haven't been able to play flight simulator for a while, let alone finish a flight here.
frown

Hopefully when it arrives I will finally be able to fly a couple of flights a day, and all the new add-ons that aren't getting released for fs9. Hopefully you will be able to get your new system soon!

Thanks guys

Dillon,
I have the following:
i7 core@3.4 ghz
16GB of RAM
GT545 3GB video

You have:
i7@4.0 ghz
8GB RAM
GTX580 1.5GB video card

After comparing everything,
CPU: you're better
RAM: I'm better
Graphics card power: about the same.

Overall, I haven't looked at my FPS recently, but there is absolutely no lag with FSX setting extremely high all around.

Hope this help!

amount of ram does not make the ram better you would have to compare speeds and brand amount of ram per card ect

and video card ram does not matter either a gtx 545 does not even have 1/10th the power of a gtx 560 with half the memory ... but in fsx you could conclude they are equal due to fsx not taking advantage of video cards...

I hope you plan on using the 64 bit version of windows 7 and are aware of the fact that the deluxe version of FSX is NOT compatible with W7 64 bit but FSX gold will run fine.
That is why I stayed with W7 32bit as I do not want fsxgold.
Be aware that a 32bit OS can only see 3.2 gigs of memory so hanging 8 gig will do you no good.

I can confirm that the deluxe version works just fine on Windows 7-64 bit.
