Currently I have a Pentium 4 processor, yeah I know its old. And I found a processor on the web. Its a i5-2400 3.1 GHz- 3.4 GHz processor. As you can tell I want to upgrade my computer for better FS playing. Is this a good choice or should I pick a different one?? Give me your thoughts.

An i5 processor will not work on a motherboard designed for a Pentium processor. You will need to replace the motherboard and processor at a minimum....probably the power supply too, I'm sure.

You have a lot to consider here...you very well may need to basically replace everything...pairing a "fast" CPU with old "slow" components would be counter productive.

You're probably going to need to. You could build your own for around €1000 ....that's my best guess...with Europe's VAT it may be more.

A €1000 ($1250) is pretty steep for a lot of us (including me). What I do is buy a component or two at a time. In a few months I have everything I need for a new system.

I am putting together a system in the near future. Upgrading from a first gen i7 860 and EVGA P55 SLI mobo :

Corsair Special Edition White Graphite Series 600T Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 Mobo
Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) - might get the 2700K unlocked for $20 more
Antec Kuhler H2O 620 Liquid Cooling System
CORSAIR Professional Series HX750 (CMPSU-750HX) 750W ATX12V 2.3 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS SILVER Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply
CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMZ8GX3M2A1600C8
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit - OEM

Total $1013

Going to use my OCZ Vertex 100 GB SSD drive from my current system as my boot/pagefile drive and 1 TB WD Caviar Black 7200 RPM as my data/application drive
Also have an AMD 5850 1 GB GPU that I may replace later with a Nvidia GPU

On my current system with the sliders at 50% and using 4xAA/16AF, I am getting around 36 FPS on average in the PMDG 757NGX with default FSX Scenery and AS2012 + FSUIPC Registered. Hoping to be able to move all the sliders higher and get around 40-45 FPS.

Don't forget that Liam appears to be in Europe. Do any of our European friends have any good online sources on the other side of the pond?

Cheers!

Here in Holland we can buy stuff from amazon. I'm not sure about Newegg.com, I don't know if they do international shipping. Also we have a Target computer store but the stuff there looks 2 to 3 handed.

Liam, from my experience the Nvidia Cards do way better for FS than ATI cards. That second machine would be a screamer, but you would run out of storage space pretty quickly. I'd throw in a 500GB or 1TB drive along with the SSD

I've been using an ATi 5850 for the past three years with no problems. I used to love Nvidia but started getting many BSODs from their drivers so I gave AMD a shot. I hope Nvidia has improved their driver reliability.as I plan on getting a 660 ti for Christmas.
I will say however Nvidia cards seem to be more consistent with AA and AF when switching from full screen to windowed mode and back.
