I have fs9 on a windows vista desktop, my problem is that whenever the splash screen comes up it immediately says "microsoft flight simulator has stopped working" and closes. I've tried uninstalling, but to no avail. Please help.

Check and update all your hardware drivers, make sure you're running FS as Admin. Check the FS disk to make sure its not scratched. If its none of those things, you've either picked up a virus or have a corrupt file somewhere.

Does it crash it with DEP? I think you can remove it from the DEP protects list under settings (sorry for being so vague; it's been like 4 years since I've last fixed this problem LOL)

Run the system restore to a date where FS2004 last worked. This usually is a quick and easy remedy to fix the problem.

Sounds like you may have some files still on your system related to FS2004 causing the problem. Here is reference guide on how to completely uninstall FS2004 from Vista.

It worked thanks! Now the problem I have now is that zip folders are only being opened with notepad and I have no clue how to switch it back to default.
