Any ideas on routes for the new 717s?

It's replacing the MD-80, and since its a 100 seater, I think it goes on the low density 757 routes (LGA - ATL, ATL - CUN, ATL - BDL)

No, it's not a Maddog replacement.

Its replacing the DC-9s and CRJ-200s. Delta currently has no plans to replace the MD-88s in their fleet. You will probably see the 717 on routes currently flown by DC-9s, CR7s, and CR9s. With the CR7s and CR9s shifting to routes currently flown by CRJs.

With Comair shutting down, CR7/9's and ERJs will take the place of the old CRJ's. It is then likely the MD80 and CR9 will shift to cover old DC9 routes and the MD90 and B717 will cover some of the MD88's longer routes.

Jordan, the 717 is optimized for short routes. With seating for just over 100, it doesn't make sense to deploy them on longer routes. Not to mention the fact that the 717 has only about half the range of the MD-88.

Hey guys i have bern chatting to some of my colleauges in work to day and they have been by delta that some of the 717s are going to be entering service with delta as early as december! Two reasons really 1 to release the tension that is going to be brought in by the closure of comair and 2 southwest are really keen to get rid of The 717s asap!
Just thought u might be interested

This one i'm not too sure about. DL hasn't even set up a training program for the 717 yet, much less having it on the line in 4 months. However, I've seen stranger things. I'd just say to not hold your breath for too long. As of right now, the first ship is to EIS the summer of 2013.

Kevin you are right. I misspoke, I think the 717 will replace the DC9's directly and takeover routes longer than the CRJ's since its a mainline jet. Sorry for the confusion.
