As a programmer I have access to Windows 8 through my MSDN account. While I'm always the first to install new things, I'm hesitant to install Windows 8. I would like to hear from those who have installed the final version of the OS and if you've experienced any issues with FS X.

I haven't tried FSX with it, but I also got the RTM version via MSDN. All I can say (in my opinion) is stick with 7. RTM is slightly more stable than the beta, but nothing of real value added. Of course I also don't believe in flying the "A" model of anything! Perhaps after a few SPs it will be worth looking into again but I'd say as ME was to XP, and Vista to 7, so is 8 to what will eventually be a decent OS. Everything is being focused on the cloud these days.

Let me know what you think of VS12. I still use 10. Send me an email if you get a chance, it's in my profile. What sort of projects you working on?

Microsoft history:
Windows 2 - Good
Windows NT - ok
Windows 95 - good/buggy
Windows 98 - ok
Windows 2000 - buggy
Windows XP - Good
Windows Vista - Bad/Buggy
Windows 7 - Good
My guess is that W8 will be ok - but lots of bugs and issues - and in about a year they will have something new that will take the bugs from 8, fix them, enhance and have a stable system for a couple 2-3 years before the next buggy one comes out

I've installed Windows 8 from MSDN yesterday. Did not have a chance to try FSX yet. However issue with dual boot is not fixed.
Every time I go into Windows 8 and then back into Windows 7 I get chkdsk problems on just about every drive.
It's happening because of the fast startup "feature" in Windows 8
Problem/solution described here: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Windows-8-Release-Preview/Windows-8-build-8400-gt-chkdsk-on-boot-up/td-p/1628479

XP was pretty good, well still is. Most companies are still using it along with Server 03. It took 3 service packs to get all the little quarks worked out though. Official support for XP will end next year. I like MS OS's but they seem to release stuff too early, just like Vista. Had they waited until they had a fully stable platform and just released 7 everything would have been fine. I think a lot of people were initially turned off from 7 because of the problems Vista had. Either way, at least it's not 3.11 with coax! I still have scars from splicing that stuff.

Ryan, I'm a web developer. I use ASP.NET MVC/SQL Server on a daily basis. I installed VS12 last night along side VS10. So far no issues. It was a quick process. I just have to get used to the new look.
Nikolay, keep us updated. I'd be interested in hearing more. I'll probably install Win 8 in a VM. I have 16GB of RAM so I should be fine.

Chris, I'm .NET developer as well. Mostly on backend. Do you like gray color scheme in VS12?

Same for me. I never took the time to deal with MVC, though. The concept of controllers is beyond the time I have to dedicate to learning the theory. I did buy MVC Unleashed but still haven't taken the plastic off yet.

Installed FSX + SP1 + SP2 with no problems
Added GTX + UTX again without issues
Was able to install REX Essential but it does not show map and randomly crashes FSX

That BEX crash is related to Windows 7 and 8's "Data Execution Prevention" code. DEP is Windows' watchdog to make sure poorly written or actual malicious programs aren't straying into protected memory locations (like the O/S kernel). If you keep getting BEX errors and it's flagging FSX as the culprit, you can disable DEP - but keep in mind this gets rid of memory protection.
To disable it, open a CMD prompt in administrator mode, then type the following:
bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff
Newer processors have DEP built into the hardware, so I'm unsure if this command also disables the hardware DEP. I know it disables the O/S DEP.
