I've been having some issues with FSX and the sound. After about half an hour of having FSX running, all sounds on my computer stop working. Programs start becoming unresponsive and closing. I have a laptop with a cooling pad, but is it helping? Do I have an overheating problem? I'm running Windows 7.

I had this issue in my desktop a while ago and just bought a better sound card and haven't had any issues since.

Any recommendations on one that would work in a laptop?

Elise, with it happening after a certain amount of time, it sure sounds like a heat issue. What model laptop do you have? On my old XPS laptop, I could actually take out the fan modules and blow the dust out from the heat sink fins. Are you able to do that with yours? On another laptop I had, I couldn't remove the fans, so I had to remove the battery, the hard drive and the RAM modules, and blow compressed air through those openings in the bottom to dislodge all the dust.

I have a Lenovo Y470. I opened it up this morning, checked out the fan and cleared the little bit of dust it had and closed it again.
