Hey I was wondering if anyone else thinks it would be a good idea to display a username on the public side of the watercooler? I'm not too excited about having my real name out there in the open for the internet. I don't mind sharing it with other DVA users, but it would be nice is the public side could hide our names.

I actually agree entirely with you on this. Its something I've been considering, and actually has limited my water cooler involvement due to job searches and the like.

Shouldn't be too hard too update the forum code to display just a pilot number.

Perhaps removing the name entirely? ...nothing wrong with just a "DVA10274" and no name. Easier too...no user name coding.
Kris, I'd create a help desk issue for this. Maybe even e-mail Terry and see what he thinks about it.
EDIT: Guess we would need to hide signatures too...

Just searching for my name reveals nothing that's me in the first 10 pages on Google. I have to add DVA to the search terms to find myself on here.

Make it optional for the user if you ask me. I want my name displayed, and I would assume many others do as well.

I agree with you - I'm totally okay with members seeing it. However, I would prefer non-members to have my name and sig hidden from them. I have a somewhat unique last name and so when you Google my name, within the first few pages you get a decent amount of AFV/DVA related info.

Then what if someone wants to nominate someone for Sr. Capt? They wouldn't have a name to nominate.
I would like to see it as an option but also have the names completely invisible from non-members.

Under my proposal logged in members would be able to see names. It' just I don't like having my name out there scattered all over the internet. Again my name is somewhat unique so this is rather important to me.

Does this work for all past messages, or just future messages after the changes have been made. <note>I am testing this right now</note>

Kris that's because what you are doing is hiding your email, not your name. there is no feature to hide you name at the moment

what's the big deal to show the name on an aviation forum?

Privacy. Some people don't want their names on the World Wide Web available to everyone that has internet access from anywhere in the world. I don't blame them, It's a big scary world out there.

You can remove the image and opt to not use a signature by editing your profile. But yes, you can hide your email address, but not your name at this time.
