Hey everybody,
I just wanna say, I just got here and am already loving this place even before flying my first flight. Just one problem:
I went to go install ACARS and some of the fleet and I got it to the point where the installer says, "please provide some information about yourself and your system" and then the installer freezes up and says "not responding". It has been like that for the last 10 minutes on this try and on previous tries I ended up restarting my computer after a half hour. Any ideas?
My system:
Intel centrino @ 1.7ghz
250gb HD
2gb RAM
Windows XP

Could it be the Internet connection? I have tried installing other things onto my computer and they always get stuck trying to connect to the Internet. Happened with me trying to register my version of FSX, I let it sit for 9 hours while it tried to connect to the Microsoft servers before I gave up. My computer says I have a valid full Internet connection. Idk.

That's almost certainly your problem. Do you have a firewall or some "security" software in place blocking things?
Cheers!

I do not have any security software like mcafee installed, and I am not sure bout the firewall. I checked the windows security center for firewall and didn't find anything. I listed Internet explorer as an exception too. Anything else I could try?

Just curious, you say you do not have any security software installed, What are you using to protect from malware and such?

I don't use anything ...the cure is often about as bad as the disease.

Well, the reason I asked about the anti-virus protection is some malware will redirect your internet traffic, try going to Mcafee website with your browser,
if it doesnt allow you to access the page then you have some malware that will need to be cleaned, worth a try. Have you looked at your error logs?

I would strongly suggest downloading Microsoft Security Essentials, Its free and works pretty good, Chances are if you do not have any protection I would start with a good scan.

Ok I will try that. How do I look at my error log? Also I have a program called malwarebytes. Should I run it once to see what it does? Also, I can access the download page and I can download the program but then it freezes when it asks for pilot info and system info. Same is happening with fsx. I has to reinstall it because my computer was fixed, and it installed perfectly fine but I cannot register it again because it freezes up at the point when it tries to connect to the Microsoft server to register it. I let it sit for more than 9 hours the other day and it was still trying to connect.

No problem Samuel, check out this link on how to view and interpret your Error Logs, something is apparently blocking your access sometimes. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427

So I tried to do what you said, and got another problem. Internet explorer will not connect to the Internet. My computer says I have a full excellent connection to my wifi, but the Internet won't connect. I will try plugging it into the wired connection I have tomorrow.

Ok, now that your on the internet, try to recreate your error, if and when you do, check the logs. that would be the easiest to do. Chances are, now that your internet connection is restored, hopefully the problem
has resolved itself.

Ok, so I found 1 Event in the Event log that had to do with ACARS, it reads:
Date: 11/30/12
Time: 5:45:29
Type: Error
Source: Application Hung
Category: (101)
Hanging Application DVA-ACARS3{1}.exe, version 3.0.0.0, hang module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address: 0x00000000
I am going to try the installation again as this was at 5:45 and see what happens

At almost the same time there was another Log for the System about the internet:
Date: 11/30/12
Time: 5:45:02
Type: Information
Source: Tcpip
The system detected that network adapter Intel[R]...Link 5100 AGN - Packet Scheduler Miniport was disconnected from the network, and the adapters network configuration has been released. If the network adapter was not disconnected, this may indicate that it has malfunctioned.

I just tried to install ACARS V3.0 again and got the same problem. I checked the Event Viewer for all the catagories and there was nothing for DVA, ACARS of anything after 8:30:09. Should I try installing an earlier version of ACARS?

I have checked all the drivers, and there are no apparent updates to XP. It is wierd because I downloaded the new version of iTunes yesterday to the computer and it worked fine, no problems. But it wont let me download any DVA software or Google Chrome or complete my registration for FSX. I am most likely getting a new computer soon though so maybe I will just wait until then. To keep myself an active pilot I just have to login correct? anyway, thanks so much!

Ok, I am pretty sure the problem is now solved. I succesfully installed ACARS and FSINN on a different computer that will work (but barely) till I get a new one, which will most likely be in the next few months. Thanks Phil and Luke and to everybody who helped me!
