Hey guys, I just wanted throw out some info about editing FSX/FS9 liveries (DDS or Direct Draw Surface textures) for free -- No need to buy Adobe Photoshop.

1) Download & Install Paint.NET - Google it: www(dot)getpaint(dot)net This is a free, powerful image editor that I like BETTER than photoshop (at least CS4. I haven't splurged for 5 or 6 yet.) It supports layers and plugins - everything a good painter needs

2) Download & Install the DDS plugin for free from Nvidia for Adobe Photoshop (it works for Paint.NET as well.) Link below or just Google "DDS Plugin"
https://developer.nvidia.com/nvidia-texture-tools-adobe-photoshop

2b) Optional: Download the PSD plugin for Paint.NET so you can edit the paintkits provided by most developers (here: http://psdplugin.codeplex.com/)

3) Open Paint.NET and you should be able to open DDS files and save them and edit them.

Notes:
- DDS files must be exactly square (i.e. 512x512, 1028x1028.) So when you are editing make sure they are saved square.
- DDS files are usually saved flipped. The Nvidia plugin in Photophop asks if you want to open the file flipped and usually asks when you save if you want to save the file flipped. I usually always have this option on. In Paint.NET, you have to do this manually but that is quite easy with the flip vertical option.

Thats it! You are ready to paint. This has works great for me. Let me know if you are able to get it to work.

Very good, I might look at this as I like to re-paint existing liveries and add the different registrations

I would also remind you to NOT share, upload or distribute liveries you've edited, unless you get permission from the original author. That would, unless otherwise stated by the original author, be a no-no. wink

No worries Bob, I'd never share stuff anyway, if someone could repaint the entire fleets numbers then that'd be fantastic as they'd do a better job than I ever could
