Is there a way to type in SIDS and STARS into the flight plan for the GPS rather than search the FSX map and drag the line to each waypoint? Its very time consuming and sometimes difficult to locate the waypoints.

Use the DVA route plotter and select the SID STAR of your choice. It is located in the Pilot Center or on the left under Pilot Lounge.

As Jim said, if you are having problems with it, just use the route plotter. Just be careful with non-RNAV departures.
