Hi guys,
Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I will give it a go.
I am going to replace my headset soon and the current one I got have a USB plug which works fine with Vatsim.
Since the majority of the headsets I have seen got 3,5mm jacks, my questions is if I still can have FSX sounds coming out of the speakers and Vatsim ATC in my headset or is it only possible with USB ?

If you're an FSInn user, ATC voice input and output is handled by FSInn and the available audio devices it retrieves from Windows. USB headsets typically register themselves as a separate line out audio device in Windows, along side the sound card you have installed in your PC, which is what provides the abililty to separate the to streams of audio with FSInn (FSX audio goes to the PC sound card, FSInn/VATSIM audio goes to the registered headset).
If you have a non-USB headset (ie. the 3.5mm type as you say), you'd probably need to add a 2nd sound card to your PC unless your existing sound card can register your 3.5mm line out jack as a separate windows device that FSInn can pick up.
My current setup is:
FSX: speakers
NGX: speakers
VATSIM: headset
ACARS: headset
Unfortunately some of my aircraft engine sounds still come through my headset.

My headset has a 3.5mm jack which plugs into the front audio ports of my PC. My speakers are plugged in the back. I have ATC, Teamspeak, Skype, etc coming through the headset and all the other PC sounds through my speakers. I set this up through the Realtek software that came with my mobo.

All my sounds come through the speakers, but I have an old telephone headset that I use as my microphone plugged into the mic-in 3.5mm jack on the top of my PC. I just sling the headset over my neck so that the mic is in front of my mouth, but don't actually put the ear-pieces over my ear. Works better for me than a stand-alone microphone sitting on the desk, because the mic is closer to my mouth and I don't have to bend my neck everytime I want to transmit.

I got pretty much the same set up, so to answer the question, if you have two mic/speak 3.5mm ports in your computer it shouldnt be a problem, if you dont then you'll probably need a 2nd soundcard

Thanks for your answers. I got the speakers plugged in on the back and got to ports in the front for headset.
Now I just need to find a headset that I like.
