I did some overclocking using the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility and as I was going over the utility, I see that FSX does not use more than 2 Cores. SO what is the deal to purchase a Quad Core just for FSX? And what is the best way to go over 4.7 GHZ with my processor?
My PC info is:

Wins7 Ultimate x64
Intel Core i7 2600k overclocked at 4.71GHZ
8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866
CORSAIR Hydro Series H100i Water Cooler
Radeon HD 6870 x 2 2GB 2 X 256bit

But I want to understand the aspects of having 4 core as FSX doesn`t get near of it. Luca, have you got the 4 core working at the same time while flying?

FSX is an old program so doesn't take advantage of multiple cores. If you're running only FSX you really don't need 4 cores. You might also want to turn hyperthreading off as FSX doesn't take advantage of this either and it generates heat which could limit your OC a bit.

While FSX itself is not using many cores some addons like REX are standalone apps that make other cores busy. It is also good to have at least one core for OS. So 4 cores make some sense in complex FSX setups.

The above link is to the Avsim setup guide which is an accumulation of everything learned by the Avsim members over the years. It is really worth a close look. Try with a clean system. Rename your fsx.cfg and start FSX so that a new clean fsx.cfg is generated and then start with the guide. You might be amazed...

Jason, How sure are you that I need set 14 on Affinity Mask? I followed these guys and I get great at 40 FPS without stutters and other problems while loading Autogen.: http://fsxtimes.wordpress.com/2010/08/18/affinitymask/ (I`ll try 14). Lets see

Actually little by little I pushing more Reference Clock MHZ: I had on 100.30 and now 100.60. Hopefully I would get stabilized on higher Mhz clock.

As Nikolay says, 4 cores is good for FSX as other processes and apps can use the other cores even if FSX can't. And I have my Affinity Mask the same as Jason's, 14, although I can't remember why. I spent a lot of time researching it before I set it though. But the affinity mask is the "final" tweak in an fsx installation. You can try it, but if things are running well I wouldn't bother. But then if you're like me you won't be able to resist experimenting! smile

What about the Terrain on LOD_RADIUS, some says that 6.50000 is better than default 4.50000: But every time I add 6.50 it will go back to 4.50...

It goes back to 4.5 (the default) anytime you change something in the menu within fsx when it is running. Be careful with it, 6.5 in nice but it eats huge amounts of memory and could lead to Out of Memory errors. FSX is limited to 4gb with a 64bit OS no matter how much memory is installed. So if you're getting OOM's try 5.5. I have to leave mine at 4.5 because of Orbx and the memory hungry aircraft I fly. frown
