That's a lot of memory. You don't need more than 8-16 GB. Would also change the CPU to an i5.

I agree with Brandon. The 3820 is a CPU created for people who want to run 3 or 4 GPU's, but don't have the money for a 1000$ CPU. It is actually slower than a i7 3770K. As FSX can't take any advantage from hyperthreading, the high end i5 is still the best FSX cpu. Why not invest that money on a SSD?

A terrible choice for flight sim. First of all I would recommend building yourself, you could save a lot of money and end up with a much more balanced system. An i5-3570k is more than enough for gaming or flight sim, with anything in the i7 range only really needing to be used for heavily multithreaded processes. You would be better off with a different cooler; either an H100i, Kraken x60, or Swiftech H220 if you insist of watercooling, otherwise I would just throw a Hyper 212 Evo in and call it a day. 8GB of RAM is more than enough, you will never use anything close to 32GB. There is no real point in having 2 HDD's, I would swap out the 500gb for an SSD. Finally, multiple GPU's actually decreases performance in FSX (as for other games, google 'microstuttering'). A single 660ti would be more than enough for FSX but for gaming you could go with a 670 or 680 and still come out cheaper than 2x 660ti's. I would be more than happy to help you build it yourself, just give me your budget and uses outside of flight sim and I'll throw a parts list together for you.

Im also thinking of building a new system, taking into consideration Robbie's last post. A question though, Youre suggesting two HDs, one 3TB and a SSD. The purpose for this is to have the sim installed in the HD and the OS on the SSD? Or with one HD would be just fine?

Much better to have the sim installed on its own drive. I have it installed on an SSD, which doesn't improve FPS but drastically improves load times and I'm convinced (and so are many others) that it loads scenery fast enough that it contributes to less stutters.

Doesnt having the OS and the Sim in different drives affect stability? with OC machines? And Im thinking, a 256GB SSD is enough for FSX and all its add ons? Even if almost having it full?
Greatly appreciated!

nothing but positive effects on stability. I have a 256GB SSD for FSX and have 65GB free. But I have all my mesh and some photo scenery on it too. I'm thinking of moving those to a different drive at some point. But I have a lot of stuff. And having an SSD almost full is not the same as a regular drive. You don't have to defrag it and when nearly full it still operates at optimum speed. I forget when it slows down but it's something like 90%. You might want to double check that. And if you have lots of RAM you don't need a swap file. There are differing opinions on this but I've had mine off for a year and no problems. That way I can get by with a 64gb SSD for my OS. But If I was to do it again I'd get a slightly bigger OS SSD.

Sort of; The OS, FSX, and frequently used programs would be on the SSD while the HDD would be for storing other files. On a budget you could also use a smaller SSD as a cache for the larger HDD and get SSD performance on your most frequently used files without having to shell out $200+ on a larger SSD or moving things between drives all the time.

The only EVGA 680 4GB I saw on Amazon was ~$70 more. In his case it may be somewhat beneficial to his build to spend the extra money, but I doubt he would see much of a difference for the extra money unless he was using NVidia Surround. That said if I overlooked the one you are talking about would you mind posting a link so I can have a look? Thanks!

Robbie;
I went here: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_0_8?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=gtx+680+4gb&sprefix=gtx+680+%2Caps%2C237
I was looking into this one: http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-DisplayPort-Graphics-04G-P4-3687-KR/dp/B0083YF55U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1367963328&sr=8-1&keywords=gtx+680+4gb (with USD20.00 rebate) total USD528.06.
I actually looking to buy this one for USD466.00 used: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B0083YF55U/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&condition=used&qid=1367963328&sr=8-1 (But a few more I`ll get new for USD528.00.
Of course if you just running FS you don`t not even close to 2GB.
I heard that the best Video Card for FS is this one: GTX 660Ti 2GB: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130809&nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL050713&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL050713-_-EMC-050713-Index-_-DesktopGraphicsVideoCards-_-14130809-L0D

Thanks Thiago, I think I will have him stick with the 2GB; The main reason I chose that one was for the non-reference cooling. The FTW is still tempting though since they typically have binned GPUs. As for sticking with the 680 over the 660Ti he mentioned he does video editing and if he uses any software that takes advantage of CUDA he will see a significant performance increase in the 680 over the 660Ti.

I agree with Robbie's suggestions. I have built my rig according to his suggested list in this thread: http://www.deltava.org/thread.do?id=0x1bf75 . With overclocking the i5 3570K to 4.4GHz, the performance in FSX is excellent! FPS is constant at 30 locked using nvidia inspector (jumps back to around 25 in heavy airports) on NGX. The settings are almost at max. It was quite surprising to see this type of performance on a rig built in a budget of about $800.

Robbie, you gotta playing around with coupons and discounts. The 680`s was more than USD600.00 when came out, than came out the GTX 690 prices on GTX`s dropped.
I`m so confident that I will be purchasing the 680 for less than USD400.00.

Doing a dual GPU SLI or Crossfire setup is a waste for FSX in my opinion. Get a single GTX680 as others have suggested. I have a single GTX660TI and average about 28 to 32 FPS in the PMDG 737NGX with sliders at 75% using Opus FSX and AS2012 textures while flying online.

Yes, dual GPU's speed up most everything but can actually slow down FSX.

+ 16 GB MEMORIA RAM DD3, 16OO MHZ ……

You should probably make your own thread for this but you should probably change the CPU to a 3570k, 8GB of RAM is more than enough for most uses, and if you want to overclock you will need a aftermarket CPU cooler such as the Hyper 212 Evo.

Like Robbie said; You don`t need 16 GB of RAM as 8 is enough. If you want to Overclocking, I would try the software from INTEL: Intel Extreme Tuning utility: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/motherboards/desktop-motherboards/desktop-boards-software-extreme-tuning-utility.html
It should do the work for you as did on mine.
By the way, I didn`t see a CPU cooler there; as its a must!
Good luck

I would strongly recommend doing any overclocking in the BIOS. It leads to more stable overclocks and is just as easy.

i7 3750 is really all you need. I got the 3770k because it was a great price at the time and have hyperthreading turned off because FSX runs smoother without it. I would also recommend a liquid CPU cooler if you want to overclock and don't want a lot of noise. I got the Corsair H80 and overclocked to 4.5 Ghz in BIOS smooth as silk with max temps in the mid to upper 60's in FSX.

Just a heads up word of warning to those out there with the Intel Core i7 3770k processor - stick with the ASUS P8Z77-V LX series or similar motherboard to support the tremendous overclock capability of the 3770k. Some prebuilt package rigs are shipping with a Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3H or similar motherboard variant which doesn't support overclocking with the 3770k. IMO Gigabyte is a great MB and you'll still have a good box but you'll never be able to OC w/o the right MB.
Someone also passed along this resource to me. An outfit named Jetline Systems specializes in FS rigs. The information here is kept up to date and can help guide enthusiasts with component selection:

I purchased my parts this afternoon and should start assembly tonight after FNO and a final backup of my current system completes.
Here it is:
Asus P8Z77-V LX 1155 motherboard
Intel Core i7 3770k processor, 3.5GHz stock OC to 4.5GHz
16GB Crucial DDR3 1866MHz CL9 memory
MSI (GeForce) GTX660TI 2GB video card (4 display support, looked at the 680s but frankly can't justify the price tag)
Corsair Hydro H8-I liquid cooling (already have one of these on old system, works well)
Corsair 750W CX2 power supply
Pair of 128GB Crucial SSD M4 drives (txfer over from my old system)
Seagate 3TB 7200RPM SATA drive (Megascenery armed)
LG 24X DVDRW/Blu-Ray
Corsair Vengeance C70 ATX case
Reese's Peanut Butter Cups

The first one has a non-reference cooler and a higher factory overclock. If they are the same price I would go with that one.

Looks good; any reason you went with the 3770k over the 3570k? Also 8GB of RAM is sufficient although the extra won't hurt. You also need to be sure you got the king size peanut butter cups, they tend to be a better value :).

Guys, sorry to ask, but is can anyone here provide me with some kind of assistance or guide for overclocking the I7 3770k? I know its a trial and error process, but perhaps somebody has the system with these specs already running and can give me a head start as on what values to try on the BIOS?
Greatly appreciated!

The full process is very necessary because every chip is different. If you would like I can send (or post it here if others are interested) you an overclocking guide I wrote for another DVA member. It was specific to the 3570K and the P8Z77-LK but the process is pretty much the same for all of Ivy Bridge.

32 GB is a lot of RAM. You don't usually need more than 16 GB.

Any particular reason you decided not to go with Haswell? The only reason I would be hesitant would be the overclocking procedure has changed considerably and it would appear most chips won't be able to push past 4.6, but I typically shoot for 4.5 anyways.
For cooling there are much better options. You could either save some money and grab an air cooler (which would perform better) or grab a better closed-loop liquid cooler such as the H100i, H110, or H220. None of these would compare to a custom loop though, which are very fun to put together but take some time.
The RAM is certainly overkill for FSX & gaming, but IIRC you also do video rendering so it might not be that much of a stretch. I would try to find some 1866 or 2133 though, drop down to 16GB if you need to price wise.
You definitely want to stick with a single GPU setup. Multiple GPUs actually degrade performance in FSX by a considerable amount. If you want to spend a lot on a GPU for programs that use CUDA go with a Titan; for FSX alone anything above a 660 is more than enough.
Even for a SLI setup that PSU is complete overkill. If you go with my recommendation of a single GPU you can stick with something in the 600-750w range.
Was there any particular reason for the dual HDDs? If not you pay less price/GB by going with larger capacity HDDs.
For the SSD I would go with a comparable Samsung 840 or Crucial M4; they are some of the most reliable on the market, with the 840 pro being among the best for performance.
As always feel free to contact me if you need some help.

Would you say Ive passed a stress test? Will see after the first flight!
Cheers everyone! and again, many thanks!!!!
